Tyreek Hill Injury Update: The Latest on Miami Dolphins WR’s Apparent Thumb Injury

The Miami Dolphins do not have a high level of concern about the hand injury that will keep wide receiver Tyreek Hill out of practice.

TAMPA — Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is apparently dealing with a minor thumb injury that will keep him out of most, if not all, of Wednesday’s joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

What’s more, the odds are near zero he plays in Friday’s preseason finale.

The Latest on Tyreek Hill’s Thumb Injury

Hill practiced on a limited basis back in Miami Gardens Tuesday, wearing a brace on his injured hand/wrist. He’s the eighth different Dolphins wide receiver to have his training camp workload altered due to injury.

The others? Jaylen Waddle, Odell Beckham Jr., River Cracraft, Tahj Washington, Erik Ezukanma, Braylon Sanders, and Anthony Schwartz.

“I’m really good at thumb war,” joked Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel here prior to practice Wednesday. “He lost.”

McDaniel then provided context on an injury not expected to impact Hill’s availability for Week 1.

“I kind of alluded to it with Jaylen Waddle back at home,” McDaniel said. “But there’s certain situations where you’re in training camp, and you’re practicing, and, you know, Tyreek could practice today.

“However, there’s also times that because of the timing of where their bodies are at kind of puts them at risk to get further injury. And so it’s really from a medical standpoint, you’re just trying to let something cool down.

“So you don’t have something happen at the expense of regular-season games. So he’s been very active. But we’re trying to make sure we keep out of harm’s way. So out today.”

Waddle and Hill will be ready for the opener. But beyond that, there are some real questions. Beckham still hasn’t even practiced with the Dolphins, while Cracraft seems out for an extended period of time after getting hurt in Week 2 of the preseason.

“Built for the adversity,” Cracraft wrote on X this week. “I put my heart and soul into this game and I will continue to do that because it means something to me #finsup”
