Tyreek Hill Sends Strong Message to Miami Dolphins, Tua Tagovailoa After Settling Public Trade Demand

Tyreek Hill clarified his incendiary comments from the end of the season toward the Miami Dolphins, with a special message to Tua Tagovailoa.

The Tyreek Hill saga has been rather complicated the last few weeks. After back-to-back seasons with over 1,700 receiving yards, Hill had one of the worst seasons of his career, finishing with just 959 yards despite playing in all 17 games. As a result, rumors of a potential trade emerged, and Hill was at his trolling self, stoking those flames.

After the final game of the season, it looked like Hill was on his way out from Miami, especially after a brutal locker room interview. Now, on an appearance on “Up & Adams,” Hill elaborated, talking about the Dolphins and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa specifically.

Tyreek Hill Makes Feelings Clear About Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins

Speaking to Kay Adams, Hill was honest when discussing the situation with his squad.

In particular, he talked glowingly about Tagovailoa, claiming that the two were competitors of the highest order.

“Tua, he’s my guy, always will be my guy, no matter what, man. I’m sure he understands my frustration, we all wanna win.

“Tua, he’s another competitor, he’s a hell of a competitor — a lot of people don’t know that — he’s a winner, he’s consistent. So, I’m looking forward to continuing to build our relationship even more.”

The frustration Hill is referring to comes from that infamous interview. At the time, it felt like a virtual guarantee that Cheetah wasn’t staying long with the Dolphins, as he said, “I’m opening the door. I’m out bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day I got to do what’s best for my career.”

Even then, he mentioned his competitiveness, claiming that he was “too much of a competitor to just be out there.” At the time, it was clear that Hill’s frustration stemmed from not winning enough games during the season.

A Week 18 loss ensured that Miami wasn’t in the playoff hunt anymore, with a video of a despondent Hill on the field becoming infamous overnight. He spoke about the team’s state, and reaffirmed that he was opening “that door.”

“This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs, man. So I just got to do what’s best for me and my family. If that’s here or wherever the case may be, I’m finna open that door for myself.”

However, in retrospect, it looks like Hill has recognized the error of his ways. He continued in the studio with an “apology” to his quarterback. “This is my public apology to you, Tua. I love you, bro.”

When Adams pressed him about the apology extending to the entire team, Hill was quick to clear up his name. According to him, the locker room chemistry was untouched with Hill’s reputation as a “hot-head” more of a narrative than an actuality for his teammates.

“They already know that, though. They know I’m not that kind of player, though. A lot of people may say, ‘Oh, Reek is a hot-head,’ but all my teammates know — I come to work every day, I bust my tail, I show up to meetings on time, and I do what I gotta do.”

With this appearance, it looks like the Hill era is set to continue in Miami, at least for the time being. And if there was any doubt, Hill confirmed as much during a conversation with Pro Football Talk.

“I’m taking full accountability for what I said. I’m gonna come back next year. I wanna stay with the Dolphins.” Now it’s up to general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel to figure out a way to take them over the hump.
