Between 2018 and 2022, Tyreek Hill and Patrick Mahomes were the NFL’s scariest duo. From starting the peace sign trend to delivering some of the most clutch playoff performances we’ve ever seen, their chemistry helped start the Kansas City Chiefs’ dynasty.
But in 2022, Kansas City shocked the world, sending Hill to South Beach in a blockbuster trade with the Miami Dolphins for five draft picks.
Since then, Mahomes has added two more Super Bowl titles and Super Bowl MVPs to his name, while Hill has become the focal point of Miami’s high-powered offense. Still, fans have often wondered: Where does their relationship stand now? Hill put those questions to rest during a live, Super Bowl-themed episode of “Up & Adams.”
Tyreek Hill Calls Mahomes ‘The GOAT of Our Era’
When asked about his relationship with Mahomes, Hill made it clear that there’s nothing but respect between the two, emphasizing the bond they built both on and off the field.
“I feel like me and Pat [Mahomes] got a good relationship, I gotta keep it that way. He in a different category than all of us, bro. Like, Pat, he’s the GOAT of our era, bruh. At the end of the day, me and him brothers, you know what I’m saying, outside of football.
“Like, obviously we were teammates. But I feel like, you know, whenever he came into the league, our careers grew both together. So he’ll always be a brother to me. I have so much respect for Pat, man, because the way that he approaches the game for his teammates.”

Despite no longer playing together, football fans will always remember how dominant a duo they were and are probably thankful that their favorite team’s defense no longer has to worry about that problem.
A Look at Their Careers Since Parting Ways
When Hill left Kansas City, there were many questions about how both he and Mahomes would fare without each other. The answer? They’ve both remained elite.
Hill wasted no time proving he could be a top-tier receiver no matter who was playing quarterback. In his first season with Miami, he set new career highs in yards and receptions, posting 1,710 receiving yards and 119 catches to earn first-team All-Pro honors.
In 2023, he put up 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns en route to another first-team All-Pro selection. While his numbers dipped a bit in 2024, this was largely due to Tua Tagovailoa missing time with a concussion.
Meanwhile, Mahomes has only solidified himself as the face of the NFL and as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever live. Since Hill was traded, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl wins and is about to play in his third straight, proving he could adjust and thrive with a different supporting cast. While Kansas City’s offense has evolved over time, Mahomes’ brilliance remains the constant.
Although they’re no longer teammates, Hill and Mahomes’ connection runs deeper than football. Their time together in Kansas City helped shape both of their careers, and no matter where they play, the respect between them is undeniable.
