Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill is getting up there in age but is still one of the best, if not the best, wide receivers in the league. With only a couple of years remaining as an elite fantasy football wide receiver, how should dynasty managers value Hill heading into the 2024 offseason?
Tyreek Hill’s Dynasty Outlook
It feels like just yesterday that I was arguing on the fantasy football subreddit about how Hill was way more than a gadget guy and poised to be a perennial fantasy WR1. That was way back in 2017, which is somehow now seven years ago (where did the time go?).
Hill entered the league in 2016. Eight years is a long time. We are now coming up on Hill’s age-30 season.
If you’ve rostered Hill in dynasty all this time, you’ve enjoyed his durability. Hill has missed just five games due to injury. Even so, you can’t help but wonder when his body will no longer be able to support all of his quick-twitch movements. I don’t think that time is now, but we know it’s going to happen eventually. In dynasty, the key is trying to time it as well as possible.
Despite being 30 years old, Hill is the overall WR1 in fantasy for the 2024 season. We know it can happen fast for some players, but there are always at least some chinks in the armor. Hill has shown exactly zero signs of decline. We have no reason to believe 2024 is the year it happens.
With that said, Hill is now firmly at the age where dynasty managers need to consider how much longer the most dynamic wide receiver in the history of the game can continue to be that guy.
The straight-line speed can sustain itself longer. DeSean Jackson led the NFL in yards per reception at age 32. Even at age 35, Jackson was still probably running a 4.4 40-time. He couldn’t do anything else, but he could run really fast and occasionally burn the defense deep.
If Hill wants to play deep into his 30s, even once his other skills erode, he could remain a situational deep threat. Much like Jackson, though, once that’s all Hill is, he won’t be a useful fantasy asset.

What we know for certain is that day is coming — figuring out when is the key for dynasty managers.
Despite leaving Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and being 29 years old, Hill just posted the best season of his career, averaging 23.5 fantasy points per game. He led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. He’s the best combination of volume and efficiency, perhaps ever.
So, how long can we ride it out? Is he someone worth potentially trading now before we begin to see a decline?

Should You Trade Hill in Dynasty?

Nearly every player has that season where fantasy managers should have traded him. It’s a great feeling when you get out from under a sinking asset just before the boat hits the iceberg.
For a long time, my philosophy in fantasy was I’d rather get out a year early than be a year late. Over the years, that manifested itself in erring too much on the side of caution. This process will never leave you holding the bag, but you also may miss out on more than one year of high-level production.
If you can get out a year early, that’s fine. But what if you accidentally got out three years early? Decisions like that could crush your championship dreams.
Dynasty managers frequently focus on the future, as they should. But in 2024, you really shouldn’t care at all about 2027.
The question I always pose is this: What’s more valuable? Three years of 20 fantasy points per game or eight years of 15 points on average?
I believe Hill can continue being a 20+ points-per-game WR for three more seasons. Therefore, unless my team is going to have no chance for the next two years, I have zero interest in trading him unless I’m getting back a player that has 20 points-per-game upside and is under the age of 25.
If you look at my top 24 dynasty receivers, almost every player is age 26 or younger. It takes a truly special receiver to remain inside the top 12 at age 30. Hill is as special as they come.

Every dynasty team’s situation is different. If Hill is your only elite wide receiver and you’re starting a bunch of journeymen around him, then it might be worth it to sell him for three quality start-worthy players.
But if you’re considering trading Hill because you don’t want to be holding the bag when the inevitable decline comes, disavow yourself of those fears. It’s not yet time to trade Hill.
