Tyler Huntley Injury Update: Latest on Dolphins’ QB After Exiting Game vs. Colts in Week 7

    What's the latest

The season of pain for Miami Dolphins quarterbacks continues.

Tyler Huntley was knocked out of Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts when he was driven to the ground by Colts DB Kenny Moore  II, landing directly on his throwing shoulder. The Dolphins briefly listed him as questionable to return before ruling him out.

Let’s examine the latest injury update for Huntley and what it means for fantasy football managers.

    What Happened to Tyler Huntley?

After a brief evaluation in the blue medical tent, Huntley went with trainers to the team’s locker room. Tim Boyle was in the huddle when the Dolphins’ offense took over next.

“He’s a tough dude,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said postgame. “So coming off the field, he was trying to say he was gonna be good. And I think when the paid professionals that are on our medical team talked to him about the things that he had to do and put him through some strength testing stuff, I think he wasn’t [able to return].

“I don’t really know what the extent of it. I know it was gonna take a lot to keep him out.”

Huntley completed 7 of 13 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown before getting hurt. He is the third different Dolphins quarterback who has missed time this year due to injury.

Tua Tagovailoa has missed the last four games after suffering a Week 2 concussion. His backup, Skylar Thompson, hasn’t played since hurting his ribs in Week 3.

Thompson is available Sunday only if both Huntley and Boyle get hurt. Tagovailoa is eligible to return next week.

Potential Fantasy Fallout From Huntley’s Injury

Due to the middle class of the AFC being so large, there’s a level of urgency for the team to bring back Tua Tagovailoa, and that would change all the math in Miami should it occur next week as speculated. If not, benching all Dolphin pass catchers is plenty viable — Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle accounted for exactly zero receptions (one target) through Huntley’s 2.5 quarters on Sunday.

Boyle doesn’t offer much more in the way of optimism, even against a vulnerable Cardinals defense. If Tagovailoa does, in fact, return, you can start both Hill and Waddle with confidence. If not, it’s a conversation based on your specific situation, especially with no teams on a bye in Week 8.
