Oklahoma’s Tyler Guyton is an imposing man and has incredible size for an offensive tackle in the NFL.
He stands at 6’7”, weighs 328 pounds, and is a terrific athlete for a player of that stature.
During his time in college, Guyton got to play behind other offensive linemen who went on to be drafted. He has all the tools to be a great offensive lineman in the NFL and is looked at as a possible first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Where Did Tyler Guyton’s Football Career Start?
Guyton played his high school football at Manor High School in Manor, Texas.
During his high school career, Guyton played on the defensive side and helped his team make it to the state quarterfinals. He was a three-star recruit and decided to go play college football at TCU.
Revisiting Guyton’s College Career
TCU
Guyton redshirted his freshman year and moved to the offensive side of the ball. He played in eight games in 2021, splitting time between the offensive line and the H-back position.
His lone start of that season was actually against Oklahoma at the H-Back position. In the season finale against Iowa State, he made his presence felt by catching a six-yard touchdown pass
After two seasons at TCU, Guyton decided to transfer to Oklahoma, where he spent the rest of his collegiate career.
Oklahoma
Guyton started the 2022 season for the Sooners playing left tackle, but he switched to the right tackle spot by the end of the year. He had a great season, as he allowed only two sacks and no quarterback hits while playing over 400 snaps.
Wanya Morris and Anton Harrison entered the 2023 NFL Draft, which gave Guyton the opportunity to be one of the main pieces on the Sooners’ offensive line in 2023. He played 663 snaps last year and didn’t allow a single sack in 355 passing play snaps.
The Sooners scored at least 50 points in five different games, including three games of at least 66 points. Oklahoma averaged 507 yards per game last year, which trailed only LSU (543.5 yards) and Oregon (531.4 yards).
He was one of the leaders of that offense and was named honorable mention All-Big 12.
Guyton’s Potential in the NFL
The first thing that pops off the page with Guyton is his stature. At 6’7”, 328 pounds, he already has the size of some of the elite tackles in football, like Trent Williams and Lane Johnson.
At his size, Guyton is fairly athletic and quick on his feet. He can get to the second level on run plays and help his running back get a big play. One weakness is that he will get off balance at times, and can allow a bull rush to run right through him.
Tyler Guyton is a OT prospect in the 2024 draft class. He scored a 9.73 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 38 out of 1377 OT from 1987 to 2024. https://t.co/vNBXTj2mol pic.twitter.com/21xItpomnO

Pro Football Network draft analyst Ian Cummings thinks he has NFL starter potential, but he needs to be given the opportunity to develop.
“Guyton only has one full year of starting experience at right tackle, and that does show at times,” Cummings said. “Elements like pad level, hand usage, recovery footwork, and synergy all need further improvement. But for a high school DT with three years of collegiate playing experience at tackle, Guyton shows immense promise.”

With that lack of experience, Cummings hopes that Guyton isn’t forced to play in Year 1, and is able to continue to learn how to play the tackle position.
If given the opportunity to grow, Cummings thinks then he has a ton of upside.
“With a year or two of additional growth, he has the upside to be an impact starting RT, with a superb pass-blocking feel and versatility in the run game.”
Highlights, Records, and More
His collegiate career didn’t see a ton of accolades as it took Guyton a little while to break out in the Big 12.
Guyton was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in his final season at Oklahoma, and he helped block for an offense that put up 41.7 points per game.
