Both Bill Belichick and Jason Kelce are expected to transition to the media this upcoming NFL season. Kelce, however, appears to be in higher demand than the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach. A media reporter and industry expert broke down why the media networks may prefer Kelce over Belichick.
TV Networks Prefer Jason Kelce Over Bill Belichick
Kelce is a media professional. Hosted with his brother Travis Kelce, the 13-year pro has one of the top podcasts in America, New Heights.
On the flip side, Belichick has never had a media job. He would bring a 302–165 overall record, a 31–13 playoff record, six Super Bowl titles as a head coach, and two as an assistant with the New York Giants under Bill Parcells.
“I think it’s more likely Kelce ends up on a [pregame show] desk than Belichick,” The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand told the Ross Tucker Football Podcast. “First off, he’s kind of all-in with the podcast that he has with his brother. And I just think long term, he looks likes somebody who could do it.
“The issue for Belichick is that there is a feeling, and it seems pretty understood that he wants to coach again. So to make such an investment when you might be only for one year, I think places will be a little bit hesitant for that.
“And Belichick’s a little bit different. What does he want? That’s a question as well that has to be answered because he doesn’t have to do this.”
Belichick once told CNBC’s Suzy Welch, “Every battle is won before it’s fought. Sun Tzu – Art of War. It’s all about preparation. You know what you’re doing and you have an idea what the opponent’s going to do — what their strengths and weaknesses are.”
Belichick’s preparation for games is second to none, studying film from his time as an assistant with his first job as an assistant with the Baltimore Colts, where he made $25 per week, to his latest job as the head coach of the Patriots.
CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reported that Belichick would be highly coveted as an analyst because of his preparation and attention to detail.
“Every network would want him,” Jones said a media agent told. “He would revolutionize media with the way he prepares.”

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported at the NFL Combine that Belichick may not be out of football for long.
“The expectation right now within the [NFL], is (Bill) Belichick is coaching somewhere come 2025,” Pelissero said. “…Shortly after the Falcons opted to hire Raheem Morris over Belichick several weeks ago, multiple owners reached out to Belichick about next year’s hiring cycle.”
