The 2024 NFL season ended with the Dallas Cowboys failing to win the Super Bowl for the 29th straight year. Since Dallas’ last Super Bowl win, the team hasn’t made it beyond the Divisional Round despite impressive regular seasons.
Cowboys legend Troy Aikman has been vocal about his displeasure with where his former team currently stands in the NFL and reiterated those feelings in a recent interview.

Troy Aikman Is Not Happy With Cowboys’ Postseason Woes
Aikman was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft and spent all 12 years of his Hall of Fame career with the Cowboys. He was a six-time Pro Bowler and won three Super Bowls in four years.
Dallas was a hot commodity of the ’90s, but the success ended with its win in Super Bowl 30. In the following 29 seasons, the Cowboys made the playoffs 13 times, with the best finish being seven losses in the Divisional Round.
Notable flame-outs include 2007, 2014, 2016, and 2022. Many of the notable playoff losses have been at home, which adds to the misery of Cowboy Nation.
Aikman recently made waves saying the Dallas head coaching job was no longer a coveted position. He was asked about his thoughts on the Super Bowl drought by The Athletic’s Cowboys reporter, Jon Machota, and he feels bad the team hasn’t summited the mountain since 1995.

The Hall of Famer responded, “I thought we had more in us, and I thought we would be back. Obviously, we weren’t. But not only were we not back, but you know, here we are, almost three decades later, and no one’s been back.”
Aikman made the playoffs three more times after winning Super Bowl 30. Those teams included multiple Hall of Fame players like Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, and Charles Haley, but none could get Dallas back to the big game.
Aikman continued, “I speak for the Cowboys faithful in saying that, you know, it’s been a long time, and this is the Dallas Cowboys, and it’s an organization that’s had a great history, and this team has won a lot of games over the years with a lot of different players, but for whatever reasons, they just haven’t been able to get it done in the postseason.”
Recent failures have brought even more attention to the Cowboys. They went 12-5 with Dak Prescott at the helm each year from 2021 to 2023 but had just one playoff win and two embarrassing home losses in the Wild Card round.
Dallas let Mike McCarthy’s contract expire after a 7-10 finish in 2024, where Prescott, the league’s highest-paid quarterback, only played eight games.
Aikman finished his statement speaking for several in Cowboys Nation.
“But I don’t think anybody’s happy about that, that that’s been a part of the Cowboys’ legacy and what this franchise has stood for for so many years.”
Time will tell if new head coach Brian Schottenheimer will be the one to reverse Dallas’ postseason woes, but fans and former players are frustrated with where the team stands.
