Troy Aikman Trusts Brian Schottenheimer To Lead Cowboys

Aikman played his entire career with the Cowboys and, hence, has a special vantage point on whether Schottenheimer’s hiring will suit America’s Team or not. The three-time Super Bowl winner also weighs each decision with Cowboys fans in mind.

The 58-year-old recently appeared on 96.7’s “The Musers” and countered the narrative that Schottenheimer is not a worthy fit for the Cowboys.

“Although the majority of people may say Brian Schottenheimer didn’t have opportunities in other places and yet he lands the Dallas Cowboys job,” he said.

The former quarterback stressed that fans shouldn’t care which franchise got which head coach since all of them will experience equal pressure and expectations. Aikman highlighted that irrespective of any HC’s previous experiences, their real judgment will start when the season starts.

“I like Brian a lot, and I hope he’s able to do it, and I hope he’s able to do it for all the right reasons,” added the six-time Pro Bowler. “I hope he does it for the Cowboys fans. It pains me.”

“These Cowboys fans invest a lot. It’s important to them, they live and die every week with the success of the Cowboys. They spend hard-earned money supporting the organization.”

NFL Analyst Points Out What Schottenheimer Will Have To Deal With in Dallas

Schottenheimer has been a part of the Cowboys since 2022. However, going against Aikman’s words, Chase Daniel — another former NFL quarterback — highlighted his belief that the new HC is not fit to lead the Cowboys.

“You’ve never been a head coach, but you’ve never been a head coach in Dallas,” Daniel said. “It’s the brand. It’s everything other than football that matters there.”

The former QB pointed out that Schottenheimer hadn’t even been calling the plays while he was the offensive coordinator under McCarthy. Daniel suggested that if the Cowboys end up going to the playoffs in 2025, that should be an overwhelming success for the franchise.
