Florida State running back Trey Benson is arguably the top player at his position in the 2024 NFL Draft after a successful college career.
Benson spent his last two seasons of college football with the Seminoles after transferring from Oregon, where he wasn’t getting much playing time. Benson turned into the feature back at FSU, rushing for nearly 2,000 yards in two seasons and contributing in the passing game.
As one of the top backs in this class, Benson has the athletic tools that NFL general managers will be all over in the NFL Draft.
Trey Benson’s Impressive NFL Combine Performance
The NFL Combine gave Benson an opportunity to prove why he is the top running back in this class.
He measured pretty well, especially for his speed. His 6’0 1/4″ height puts him in the 77th percentile in direct comparison to his peers at the running back position. His 216-pound frame is on the smaller side, but his speed makes up for it.
How Fast Is Benson?
Benson’s 4.39-second 40-yard dash put him in the 92nd percentile. He has blazing breakaway speed that will catch the attention of RB-needy teams.
During his three seasons of college football, Benson averaged 6.1 yards per carry, proving to be an explosive threat every time he touched the ball. He also had 33 career receptions for 371 yards, good for 11.4 yards per carry. He was just as explosive of a pass catcher.

Born July 23, 2002, Benson is 21 years old. He will turn 22 before the first preseason game of his rookie season.

Benson’s Latest Scouting Report
During his time at Florida State, Benson served as the engine that powered the Seminoles’ offense. In his final season, he scored a career-best 14 touchdowns, proving that he is still a player on the rise.
In Benson’s scouting report, Pro Football Network draft analyst Ian Cummings referred to the Florida State back as a hyper-dense RB with a powerful, compact frame and a strong lower body.
“His size-speed profile and his baseline vision and footwork allow for schematic flexibility across gap and zone looks, and his visible potential as a receiver serves as a bonus,” Cummings notes.
“As a projected volume back, Benson brings plenty to like. He has a strong, compact build at around 6’0″, 200 pounds, with a powerful lower body. He’s an explosive vertical runner with constant leg churn who uses forward-pressing physicality, tenacity, and elite contact balance to routinely withstand tackles and glean maximum potential from runs.”
