Trevor Lawrence Leg Injury: What We Know About Jacksonville Jaguars Quarterback

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence went down in the first half with a leg injury but returned to the game after halftime.

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence went directly to the locker room after suffering an apparent left leg injury late in the first half of the Jaguars’ game against the Detroit Lions. However, he avoided a major injury and returned to the game in the second half.

Lawrence’s injury scare came on the final play of the half. His cleat appeared to stick in the ground as he was twisted down by linebacker James Houston on a sack. Lawrence walked off under his own power and then went straight inside for further examination. At the time Lawrence re-entered the game in the third quarter, the Jaguars were trailing 30-16.

The former No. 1 overall pick had completed 9 of 19 passes for 124 yards in a game the Jaguars trailed by three scores at the time of the injury. C.J. Beathard — who has a career 81.4 passer rating — is Lawrence’s backup and the only other quarterback on Jacksonville’s active roster.

A significant injury would have been a terrible setback for a second-year player who had made major strides in recent weeks. Fortunately, that seems to have been avoided.

Just last Sunday, Lawrence engineered a dramatic fourth-quarter comeback win against the Baltimore Ravens. He had thrown six touchdowns and no interceptions in his previous three games, completing more than 75% of his passes.

Entering the game, Lawrence had completed 66.5% of his passes for 2,655 yards with 16 touchdowns and just 6 interceptions. That was a big step forward from last year when he ranked 28th in QBR (39.1), 30th in passer rating (71.9), and threw the most interceptions in the league (17).
