The Jacksonville Jaguars are on the verge of losing their fourth consecutive game, and their starting quarterback isn’t anywhere near full health. Trevor Lawrence, who’s been banged up for much of the 2023 NFL campaign, suffered another injury in Week 16.
Trevor Lawrence Injury Update
Trailing 30-6 early in the fourth quarter, the Jaguars listed Lawrence as questionable to return with a shoulder injury. However, Jacksonville downgraded Lawrence to “out” several minutes later. Backup quarterback C.J. Beathard took over under center.
It remains unclear if Lawrence is seriously injured. Being quickly ruled out is rarely a good sign for a player’s future availability, but Sunday’s score could have also played a part in head coach Doug Pederson’s decision to sit Lawrence.
Lawrence has suffered an injury in three consecutive weeks. He went down with a high ankle sprain against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 14 before suffering a concussion in Jacksonville’s Week 15 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Lawrence also sustained a bruised knee in Week 6 against the Indianapolis Colts. But despite myriad health issues, he has yet to miss a start.
The Jaguars will drop to 8-7 after Sunday’s defeat but will remain atop the AFC South thanks to losses by the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans. Jacksonville still controls its own destiny and has winnable games against the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans over the next two weeks.
Entering Week 16, Lawrence had completed 65.9% of his passes for 3,525 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, ranking 10th in the NFL in QBR (60.2).
Fantasy Fallout From Lawrence’s Injury
Lawrence threw for 213 yards with a score and two interceptions through the first three quarters. If Lawrence cannot play next week, Beathard will take over under center, which would negatively affect Calvin Ridley and Evan Engram.
