Trevor Lawrence Injury Update: Latest on Jaguars QB

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence gave fans a scare when he suffered a knee injury late in their game against the Indianapolis Colts a couple of weeks ago. Since then, all eyes have been on Lawrence’s status on the Jaguars’ injury report to see whether the QB is still feeling the effects of that injury. Let’s take a look at the latest injury update for Lawrence entering Week 8.

Latest Injury Update for Trevor Lawrence

It has very much felt like more of the same for Lawrence in Week 8. Last week, we saw him limited all week in practice, listed as questionable before ultimately suiting up on the short week for Thursday Night Football victory over the Saints. We have seen the same pattern play out this week so far, and there is no reason not to expect that Lawrence will be on the field again Sunday.

The fact Lawrence is listed as questionable this week was somewhat surprising. When he addressed the media on Friday, head coach Doug Pederson seemed happy that Lawrence was doing fine, “Trevor has been good, obviously. He got a good work in yesterday, and it feels good.”

The way Pederson addressed the injury, it didn’t seem like there was any concern, but now Lawrence is listed as questionable. Was that always the plan, or did the Jaguars QB suffer some kind of setback on Friday? If it was the second, we will likely find out more either later on Friday or during Saturday.

What Are the Jaguars’ Options if Lawrence Misses Time?

The Jaguars currently have two QBs on their active roster. Lawrence is the unquestioned starter when healthy, while C.J. Beathard is in the backup role. If Lawrence were to miss time, Beathard would be the next man up under center.

There is another QB currently with the team, as Nathan Rourke is on the practice squad. Rourke was elevated to the active roster to be the emergency third QB last Thursday before being waived early in Week 8. When Rourke cleared waivers, the Jaguars brought him back into that practice squad role.

The first sign we should get when it comes to Lawrence on Saturday will be if the Jaguars decide to elevate Rourke again. If they do activate him on Saturday to ensure they have an emergency third QB, it would be a good indication that Lawrence is still struggling with his knee a little.

However, even if Rourke were to be elevated, there has been no indication from the Jaguars that it will be anyone other than Lawrence under center. At this stage, it would be a tremendous surprise if we see Beathard starting in Week 8. Jaguars’ fans will be hoping their former No. 1 overall pick will be under center as they look to build on a four-game winning streak in Pittsburgh.
