Ohio State RB and 2024 NFL Draft prospect TreVeyon Henderson has now missed two games with an undisclosed injury. What is his status ahead of the Buckeyes’ next conference clash, and should he be expected to make his return?
TreVeyon Henderson Injury: Latest News on Ohio State RB and 2024 NFL Draft Prospect
Update added on October 21, 2023, at 12:05 AM ET: Henderson was deemed a game-time decision against Penn State, but was considered “unlikely” to play on the broadcast before kickoff.
Henderson was at full health in 2023 up until the Maryland game. Somewhat unexpectedly, he missed that game due to an undisclosed injury. And then, despite moving at close to full pace in warmups ahead of the Purdue game, Henderson missed that contest as well.
Currently, Henderson is listed as questionable for the team’s ranked stand-off against the Penn State Nittany Lions. There doesn’t seem to be as much fear or trepidation around this injury as there was around Henderson’s foot ailment in 2022. Nevertheless, the Buckeyes are exercising caution.

On Tuesday, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day offered the following to media about Henderson, Emeka Egbuka, and Miyan Williams, all of whom missed the Purdue game: “I’m not gonna get into all those guys, but hopeful that we’ll have all those guys back for Saturday.”
In Henderson’s stead, Dallan Hayden played well against the Boilermakers, putting up 76 yards and a score on 11 carries. The Buckeyes were also able to take pressure off the ground game by producing with Marvin Harrison Jr. and the passing game.
Henderson Has Returned to Form in 2023, But Health Remains a Question
After a 2021 true freshman campaign that saw him explode for 1,248 yards and 15 touchdowns on 183 carries, as well as 312 yards and four scores on 27 catches, Henderson regressed in 2022 when a broken bone in his foot prevented him from playing at 100 percent.

That foot injury visibly detracted from Henderson’s elite natural burst, but so far in 2023, he’s looked like his old self. Before he sat out the Maryland game, he had 295 yards and five scores on just 44 carries and was operating at a career-best efficiency level.
Henderson is an incredibly dynamic runner with dual-sided explosiveness, foot speed, and contact balance, with the vision to maximize those traits. And in the passing game, he’s incredibly versatile as well.
Regardless, injuries have always been a looming question mark for him, and this latest issue doesn’t quell concerns on that front. The hope is that we’ll see him back and fully healthy against the Nittany Lions. But right now, his status remains unclear.
