He was seen testing the ankle on the sideline blocking against Nick Zakelj and appeared to be preparing to return to the game, according to NBC’s Matt Maiocco.
Williams returned to the game early in the second quarter.
Williams was part of an on-field scrum before the game between 49ers and Browns players as the two teams tussled with each other a bit. He was seen knocking one Cleveland player to the ground.
After the game, Williams’ right foot was in a walking boot, per ESPN. Williams suggested he wanted to remain in the game so he could continue to block Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett.
“It didn’t feel good at all,” Williams said. “It’s football. I just tried to fight through it for my teammates.
They’ve got a Hall of Fame rusher over there in 95, and I wanted to get back out there so I could kind of help my team try to contain him. I didn’t want to put (backup OT) Jaylon (Moore) in that position.”
