Travis Kelce is already considered one of the greatest tight ends to have graced the NFL, and the superstar Kansas City Chiefs player is on the verge of breaking yet another record.
When the Chiefs visit the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night, all eyes will be on who can reach Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. However, the special TE will also have eyes on a potentially record-breaking night.
Could Travis Kelce Break the Postseason Receptions Record?
Update 01/28/2024: Late in the second quarter against the Baltimore Ravens, Travis Kelve notched his seventh catch of the day. That officially puts him ahead of Jerry Rice for the postseason reception record.
Kelce needs seven catches in the AFC Championship Game to break the record for the most career passes caught in the NFL Playoffs. He currently has 145 postseason catches in his career, six behind Jerry Rice (151).
Kelce has already broken one record this postseason together with QB Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes and Kelce now have the most career postseason touchdowns by a QB-receiver duo (16).
The previous record was 15, held by Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. In the aftermath of the Chiefs win over the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round, Brady took to X, formally known as Twitter, to call the Chiefs pair “beasts.”
There are two other postseason records that Kelce could break, but it seems unlikely that Kelce could break them against the Ravens in the AFC Championship Game.
The all-time postseason touchdown record is also held by Rice (22). Kelce currently has 18. Rice likewise holds the record for all-time postseason yards (2,245). Kelce, currently in second with 1,694, still has some work to do to catch up there.
After recently quashing rumors of a potential retirement, Kelce could hold all three records within a couple of years, assuming the Chiefs continue to be the NFL juggernauts they’ve been over the past decade.
What makes his record-breaking pace even more impressive is the fact that Kelce is a TE. Rice is one of the best receivers the NFL has ever seen, and for a TE to come close to his marks seems absurd.

A Hall of Fame player, Rice was enshrined in 2010 after having 14 1,000-yard seasons in the NFL. He is a three-time Super Bowl champion and holds the NFL records for the most career receptions, career receiving yards, and career receiving touchdowns.
The fact that Kelce is approaching postseason records set by one of the greatest WRs of all time encapsulates what an incredible career Kelce has put together.
