The Dallas Cowboys suffered a devastating loss to the Detroit Lions on Jerry Jones’ 82nd birthday. The Cowboys lost 47-9 in Week 6 and are now 3-3 on the season.
During his appearance on “105.3 The Fan” in Dallas, Jones got extremely upset with the radio show’s hosts and threatened their jobs. The Cowboys owner received a lot of backlash for this, and even Travis Kelce’s ex-girlfriend, Kayla Nicole, had something to say about Jones.
What Did Jerry Jones Say on the Radio Show?
During his appearance on the radio show on Tuesday morning, Jones got upset after he was questioned about the team’s lack of moves in the offseason.
“Listen, let me tell you what I’ll do about it; I will let us sit down and look at the decisions we’ve made over the last several years. OK? I’ll look at it ā¦” Jones said. “This is not your job. Your job isn’t to let me go over the reasons that I did something, and I’m sorry that I did it. That’s not your job.
“That’s not your job, or I’ll get somebody else to ask these questions, men. No, no. I’m not kidding.”
Cowboys fans and people around the media did not like Jones threatening to fire the radio show hosts.
“Can someone let Pappa Jerry know he’s worried about firing the wrong people?” Nicole said via her Instagram story.
The Cowboys have not won a Super Bowl since 1996 and have won only four playoff games since 2000. Despite that, Jones continues to take the majority of the decisions for the franchise.
Due to the lack of success, the fans are often seen speaking against Jones. The team has not played well this season and has lost all their three home games with a combined score of 119-53.
The Cowboys are averaging just 77.2 rushing yards per game. Jones has been constantly criticized for not signing Derrick Henry in free agency or drafting a running back.
Jones Further Clarified His Statements
Jones attended the NFL meetings in Atlanta on Tuesday afternoon. While present there, he talked to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini and explained what happened during his appearance on the radio show.
āI donāt know that I would go as far as [calling] the volume connotation as yelling,ā Jones said. āOK? But the facts are that if Iām going to be grilled by the tribunal, I donāt need it to be by the guys Iām paying. I can take it from fans and take it from other people. I take a lot of pride in how fair and how much I try to work with the media; weāre brothers and sisters. But I was a little frustrated there today.
“The wrong ones were doing the questioning. Now, if those had been real fans sitting there or if there had been people that knew what they were talking about, football people, I might have had a different answer.ā
Various people in the media criticize Jones daily, and he never calls them out. However, since today’s incident happened at the Cowboys’ radio station, he got frustrated.
The Cowboys have a bye in Week 7 and will have two weeks to prepare for the game against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8. Last season, the 49ers won 42-10 against the Cowboys, and America’s team hopes to avoid a similar result this time.
Head coach Mike McCarthy is in the final year of his contract with the Cowboys, and although Jones has ruled out the possibility of firing him, the chances of him returning next year are quite low.
If the Cowboys suffer another blowout loss after their bye week, defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer could get fired. The team’s defense defense is giving up an average of 28.0 points and 369.7 yards of offense per game this season. Their run defense has been terrible, as they allow an average of 143.2 rushing yards per game.
