‘A Tough Pill To Swallow’ – Travis Kelce Gets Candid on Chiefs’ Super Bowl 59 Heartbreak

Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce discussed Super Bowl 59 disappointment with his brother Jason on the "New Heights" podcast.

Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce has given his thoughts on the disaster that was Super Bowl 59. While discussing the contest with his brother Jason on the popular “New Heights” podcast, Kelce outlined how nothing went right at all for the Chiefs in the game and he was disappointed in how he played and reacted to the situation.

The Chiefs were dominated from start to finish by the Philadelphia Eagles. The game ended 40-22, however, that score does not truly reflect how the game went. The Chiefs got 16 of those 22 points in the fourth quarter, when the game was already largely out of reach. At halftime, the Chiefs only had one first down in the game. At one point in the third quarter, the Eagles led by a score of 34-0.

Travis Kelce’s Super Bowl 59 Analysis

Kelce outlined how nothing went right for the Chiefs and himself in Super Bowl 59, something that has left him disappointed and frustrated with himself.

“For a bunch of reasons, that just didn’t happen man. It just wasn’t our day. Couldn’t find a lick of momentum. I’m kicking myself for some of the tiny, tiny decisions I made on the field, trying to do something more than what I was asked to do during plays. I wasn’t the best leader that I could be and motivating my guys and keeping my guys calm, cool, collected. And, I put a lot of that on myself… It’s a tough pill to swallow man,” Kelce said.

Kelce’s Super Bowl 59 Review and Future Outlook

Kelce was very poor in the Super Bowl. Though his official stat line says that he had four receptions and 39 yards, those numbers are quite deceiving. Three of those four catches and 30 of those 39 yards came after the score was already 34-6 and out of reach.

Kelce’s first catch didn’t come until the game was already 27-0 Philly. He also had one key dropped pass for what would’ve been a first down for the Chiefs early on in the contest.

The future of Kelce seems to be uncertain. He has remained quiet on his future plans, deciding to wait until after the Super Bowl to make a decision on his future.

Though he is arguably the greatest tight end in NFL history, it is evident that Kelce has been regressing over the past few years. This year, he recorded his lowest receiving yard (823) and receiving touchdown (three) tallies of his career.
