Travis Hunter Regrets Not Realizing Effects of ‘Social Media’ Earlier

Hunter is undoubtedly a generational talent. But it’s not just his on-field performance that’s making headlines. During a Q&A session on his podcast, “The Travis Hunter Show,” the 21-year-old Colorado WR revealed a personal viewpoint. When asked about one thing he wished he had realized earlier in life, Hunter shared his newfound perspective on social media.

“I wish I realized earlier not to be on social media so much,” Hunter confessed. The wide receiver/cornerback explained how stepping away from apps brought him unexpected joy, freeing him from the stress of constant content creation and public scrutiny. “I live life happy now — just watching YouTube, playing games with friends. It’s a different type of joy.”

Hunter’s departure from social media hasn’t gone unnoticed. After deleting his Instagram in Dec. 2024, he admitted to feeling safer and happier. Concerns over privacy and fan interactions even prompted him to hire a personal security guard. “All the haters are messing it up for my supporters,” Hunter admitted.

Off the field, Hunter’s personal life faced intense public attention, starting right after the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York on Dec. 14. Hunter’s girlfriend, Leanna Lenee, became the center of controversy after alleged videos of her past invited online criticism. Despite the negative spotlight on Lenee, the couple has maintained a united front.

One of the top prospects of the 2025 NFL Draft, Hunter had a phenomenal 9-4 season with Colorado to show for his impact. His 2024 season under the guidance of NFL legend Deion Sanders showed improvement in defensive technique, growing his reputation as a threat to quarterbacks.

Hunter channels DeVonta Smith-like finesse as a receiver, using his burst and catch radius to create game-breaking plays. However, he’ll need to refine his route running to compete at the next level as a top-tier receiver. On defense, his anticipation and leaping ability allow him to contest passes and make jaw-dropping interceptions.

Hunter’s weaknesses include inconsistent balance during backpedals and struggles against physical press coverage. Still, his knack for clutch performances cements him as a potential future NFL star, regardless of his position.

Scouts will need to decide whether Hunter’s best fit is as a lockdown corner or a game-changing wideout — or even both.
