‘I Always Wanted To Play for His Team’ – Travis Hunter Reveals Hilarious First Impressions of Meeting Cam Newton

Colorado Buffaloes dual-threat wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter has revealed what his first impressions were of former NFL quarterback Cam Newton. While appearing on “The Travis Hunter Show” earlier in the week alongside Newton, Hunter outlined his first time meeting Newton and the funny first thought he had.

Hunter had a great campaign for the Buffaloes this year and was a large reason behind the program’s success. The Buffaloes had a 9-4 overall record this year while playing in the Big 12 conference, a large improvement from the season prior when the program finished at 4-8 overall in the Pac-12.

What Did Travis Hunter Reveal About First Meeting With Cam Newton?

Hunter made clear that he was shocked about how tall Newton truly was.

“Bro, he’s tall as hell. He gave me that little pep talk. Just like that. And my dad was there. That was probably the only seven-on-seven my dad came to. But, I always wanted to play for his team cause they do like a little pre-game thing where they get everybody hyped,” Hunter stated.

Later in the full version of the video, Newton gave praise to Hunter for his elite talents and the amazing person that he is.

    Hunter’s 2025 NFL Draft Projection

By all accounts, Hunter is expected to be taken within the top five of the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. In PFSN’s recent 7-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Hunter was selected No. 4 overall by the New England Patriots.

“Travis Hunter is one of one. If we had allowed ourselves to split the player into a cornerback and wide receiver, he would have ranked first and 12th, respectively. He’s the top cornerback in the NFL Draft, and he’s the best receiver. His rare ball skills as a wide receiver translate to the other side of the ball, and he’s played with more physicality in 2024 than in 2023.

“Hunter won’t play full-time on both sides at the next level. Teams must decide if he’s more valuable to them as a full-time defensive or offensive player.

“All that said, it would be malpractice to take away a potentially generational defensive prospect from that side of the ball entirely. A ‘best of both worlds’ scenario would be playing 80-100% of the team’s defensive snaps while also playing 10-20% of the offensive snaps.”
