Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter isn’t happy with how the conversation around Shedeur Sanders for Heisman hasn’t built up.
Both Sanders and Hunter have had incredible all-around seasons. The Buffaloes were close to making the Big Ten Championship Game, and if not for the Week 13 upset loss against Kansas, would have had a shot at the College Football Playoff.
Sanders wrapped up his regular season with a five-touchdown performance against Oklahoma State, adding to his already impressive tally, which now includes 3,926 passing yards, 35 touchdowns, and only eight interceptions.
Meanwhile, Hunter, a leading Heisman candidate himself, has totaled 1,152 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns while also contributing on defense with four interceptions and 21 solo tackles.
Travis Hunter Speaks Up for Shedeur Sanders Not Getting Deserved Heisman Attention
Hunter said both have been getting “overlooked” for various reasons, but he will make sure to give his quarterback the props if he gets on stage to receive the Heisman.
In his recent episode on “The Travis Hunter Show,” the two-way star spoke about Sanders not getting enough attention despite putting up a monstrous season.
“He’s still been overlooked for the Heisman, so guess what? At this point, we know what’s happening,” Hunter said. “They tried to make me — they tried to get me out of the conversation, but luckily, God’s got my back. I still played great, still played well. He put me in the right position, and I capitalized, right? And they’re still going to overlook Shedeur.
“So guess what? They’re all going to be mad because he’s still going to be there. If I get invited, he gets invited. It doesn’t matter if they didn’t invite him. If I walk on that stage, he might walk on that stage. So, at the end of the day, we both won.”
Hunter Almost a Lock for Heisman After Another Spectacle Against Oklahoma State
The synergy between Sanders and Hunter was on fire in the game against Oklahoma State in Week 14. Hunter came up with an early interception in the game on defense, followed by a spectacular receiving performance: 10 receptions, 116 yards, and three touchdowns.
This boosted Hunter’s Heisman odds to another level, as he now sits at -10000 betting odds. For those not much into sports betting, here’s a simple explanation.
A negative number in betting odds reflects how much money you need to wager to win $100. For odds of -10000, you would need to bet $10,000 to win $100 (your total payout would be $10,100). This implies a very low return, indicating the outcome is seen as very likely.
The next best candidate in line to win the Heisman is Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty, who has +2500 betting odds to win the award.
