Travis Hunter is on the fast track to the NFL. However, before he leaves his college days behind, the former Colorado Buffaloes wide receiver/cornerback took a moment to praise the teammate who helped him along the way.
Travis Hunter Couldn’t Thank Fellow Colorado Safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig Enough
During the latest episode of ‘The Travis Hunter Show,’ the Colorado athlete opened up about the influence of fellow Buffs safety Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig. “My boy Cam. He took me under his wing. Cam was my go-to person. He was always there,” Hunter said.
He reminisced about their time together and credited Silmon-Craig for guiding him through the demanding world of college football. “I did pretty much everything: how to prepare, how we started the playbook, the eating, workout… that was my workout buddy for probably the last two years.”
“Last year, I started working out by myself and doing a little more, but definitely, yeah, Cam. Cam is like my go-to person. If I needed him, pick me up, take me to practice. He’s always there, so definitely,” Hunter added.

With that being said, Hunter will no longer be playing alongside Silmon-Craig. The 21-year-old two-way phenom is moving to the NFL and is one of the top prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft. Hunter’s achievements, like winning the 2024 Heisman Trophy, show his potential. With his hard work and support from fans and well-wishers, the Colorado athlete is ready to start a new chapter of his life in the pros.
Hunter Doubles Down on Bold NFL Decision
As the 2025 NFL Draft approaches, one question remains: will Hunter play both ways in the NFL? Playing both sides of the ball was Hunter’s specialty at Colorado under the tutelage of head coach Deion Sanders.
While scouts have mixed opinions on the matter, former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow spoke highly of Hunter’s two-way potential. “I would love to see it… I’m rooting for him to do both because it would be fun, ” Tebow told USA Today.
“I just don’t think people realize how big, tall, and long he is until you see him up close and personal. He’s not the same frame as a lot of corners and DBs. He’s bigger, he’s long. He makes other big guys look really small on the field,” the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner added.
Responding to Tebow on his podcast, Hunter acknowledged Tebow’s endorsement, saying, “I definitely appreciate it, Tim Tebow giving me some encouragement to do what I do… I’m gonna keep doing what I do. Don’t just try to shut me down and force me to do one thing.”
Hunter’s Heisman-winning season backs up his claim. He posted 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns as a receiver and also had 35 tackles, 11 pass deflections, and four interceptions as a cornerback.
