Top Super Bowl Appetizers and Snacks in 2023

With kickoff of Super Bowl 57 quickly approaching, here is a head start on your game plan for appetizers, food, and snacks guests will enjoy.

While the game might be on TV, it’s the appetizers, snacks, and food that steal the show and make a Super Bowl party what it is. It’ll keep your friends coming back for more. Whether you are a fan of the Eagles or Chiefs or simply just want everyone to have a good time for Super Bowl 57, planning your food choices now sets you up for success when kickoff arrives.

Best Super Bowl 57 Appetizers and Snacks

If there is something we excel at as Americans, it’s football and food. It should come as no surprise the two days where the most food is consumed in the USA — the Super Bowl and Thanksgiving — involve both. Super Bowl 57 is a celebration of appetizers, food, and snacks as much as it is about the Eagles and Chiefs.

One thing that is an absolute must at any Super Bowl 57 party is chicken wings or some kind of spicy chicken appetizer. It’s foolproof, not to mention you can take it in a myriad of ways.

Obviously, there are the classic buffalo wings. You can make this as exciting or classic as you want for your Super Bowl, whether they be sauced, dry rubbed, grilled, or fried. If you want to save the furniture from messy fingers and take fewer paper towels or napkins, make it a sandwich or a slider.

Additionally, boneless wings (while just adult chicken nuggets) are also an easy pick for Super Bowl 57 appetizers. They require no mess eating, and parents will likely be happier with the lack of mess kids make compared to trying to get around bone-in wings.

You can’t go wrong with a buffalo chicken dip as a Super Bowl appetizer. Not only is it easy to eat, but it saves the remote from being ruined by wing sauce that will never come out. Plus, it can be served pull-a-part style or on its own with some chips to give some variety. Also, the leftovers are the most versatile of the bunch.

Just do me a favor, and don’t call cauliflower “wings.” It’s a vegetable, not a protein. Stop trying to lie to people.

How About a Taco Bar To Add a Do-It-Yourself Option to the Super Bowl 57 Food?

I don’t know about you, but I can eat tacos every day. Not only are they easy to pull off before and during the Super Bowl, but they can be made with just about anything you can dream up. There is nothing wrong with the classic beef or chicken, but add in the steak or go a bit more authentic with birria tacos with a flavorful consommé. The options are limitless.

Are you craving some seafood? Chipotle lime fish tacos are fantastic; how about a surf ‘n’ turf variant with steak and grilled lobster tail with a cilantro chili crema? Al Pastor will always be a crowd-pleaser, just like chorizo and my usual go-to, carnitas. Use some of that bacon fat you have stored and make your own tortillas. It’s not that difficult, plus the stand mixer you bought back in 2020 when you were bored needs the dust knocked off of it.

As a host, this also makes it easy on you. Most of the work can be done ahead of time. Plus, sitting all the food out allows the Super Bowl 57 guests to make them as they desire rather than you need to do all of the work. You get all the credit while cracking open a cold one and relaxing.

Get Creative With Slider Recipes for Super Bowl 57 Snacks

What’s better than a big sandwich that will get soggy and room temp by the second-half kickoff? How about several mini-sandwiches that allow you to try a bunch of different things before needing to put on your Thanksgiving pants?

Get creative with these. How about Asian pork sliders with spicy ginger pork and a crisp Asian tangy slaw on top? The classic pulled pork or brisket sliders with crispy fried onions on top work also. Maybe go on the spicy side of life with Nashville Hot Chicken sliders with homemade bleu cheese on the side. Cheeseburger sliders are a winner every time, just like an Italian meatball-style smash slider.

Guacamole and Salsa Reigns Supreme Amongst Super Bowl 57 Appetizers

I am not saying it is my favorite on this list. To me, the whole avocado craze has gotten a bit out of hand. Sure, it is good and has its uses, but let’s not put it on a pedestal. However, I am in the minority, as the numbers say otherwise.

It’s estimated that just in a single day, Super Bowl viewers consume close to 48,000 million tons of avocados in guacamole form. Likewise, 13.2 million pounds of avocado will be consumed in the US during the Super Bowl (highest total of any single day of the year).

Play it safe, and have some guacamole ready for your guests. Don’t buy it pre-made. Have some respect for everyone who will be there — make it fresh. It’s like eight ingredients, and you probably already have 90% of them lying around already. As far as Super Bowl appetizers go, this is a no-brainer.

The same goes for salsa. Stop buying the pre-made that is just water and make it yourself in a blender. That’s all you need, honestly. Throw some tomatoes, chilis, and onion on the grill or under the broiler to char them. Add salt, cilantro, lime, and garlic, and blend. It’s honestly that simple.

Sub in tomatillos and roasted poblanos for a salsa verde, or use hotter peppers like habaneros with mango to balance the acidity. It’s one of the easiest things you can make and, with quality ingredients, will be the best salsa you have had as it’s personalized to you, not the machine in some factory that made it.
