    Published on

Who are the top free agent offensive tackles heading into the offseason? We take a look at the top names available on the open market.

The 2023 NFL season has now come and gone with the Super Bowl in our rearview. As the 32 teams around the league turn their complete focus to the offseason, things like the upcoming NFL Draft and free agency get brought to the forefront.

A major factor in the offseason is the start of free agency, which officially kicks off on March 13 at 4 p.m. ET when the new league year begins. With so much talent now becoming available and teams having roster gaps to fill ahead of the draft, there will surely be money spent. But who are the top NFL free agent offensive tackles?

Mike Onwenu and Jonah Williams Highlight a Solid Group of Free Agent Tackles

The headliners for this group are going to command money and multiple years on the open market. Adding quality offensive tackles is paramount to success, which means players such as Mike Onwenu and Jonah Williams are going to get paid — and at the top of the market.

The rest of the names on the list all have intrigue but come with their caveats that add a bit of pause that the top two don’t. A player like Tyron Smith is a future Hall of Famer, but his availability has always been more of a question than his actual ability.

The rest of the OT group boasts guys who have talent and have been productive at times but have struggled to pull it all together consistently.

Mehki Bection and Trent Brown are two hulking men who have the physical presence to be dominant, but each has dealt with injuries and such throughout their careers that have limited them. The same could be said for Donovan Smith, who is now 30 years old and has a bit of an injury history.

All of these guys are going to be on rosters, and most (if not all) will be starting or counted on for their teams in 2024. But just how much and for how long is going to be the question.

The tackle position is far too important to a team’s success, and for that, all of these guys have some sort of leverage and will be needed. Just what they will command in the open market remains to be seen.
