Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Josh Sweat will be gearing to go hard or go home at Super Bowl 59. However, he also has concerns beyond the biggest day of his career, for which he’s readying himself with his latest move.
Josh Sweat Changes His Agent 6 Days Before Super Bowl 59
Sweat is due to become a free agent after six seasons of playing in Philadelphia. The 27-year-old is preparing for a big pay hike after some productive play for the organization, powering them to their second Super Bowl appearance in three years. It seems that he is making a tactical change to his approach by hiring a new agent.
Sweat was previously represented by Wasserman Sports Agency, but he’s now choosing to enlist some big-time help. Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha are the linebacker’s new agents as he heads into the 2025 free agency window on a high.
This is, unlike what some NFL fans suspect, not a hint about his desire for a move away. Star free agents often change representation before big paydays to get the best deal possible. Sweat’s move in changing agents hints at this more than any inclination to move away from Philly.

Sweat is currently the No. 3 free agent in PFN’s Top 100 NFL Free Agent Rankings. The linebacker has bounced back from a down year in 2023, much like the rest of their defensive line. The Eagles are, once again, the best pass-rushing unit in the NFL. Sweat’s contributions have also helped the team ranked second on PFN’s NFL Defense+ rankings for the 2024 season.
Sweat will have a huge role to play in getting the Eagles’ pass rush past Joe Thuney, who was moved to left tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship. Getting to Mahomes by setting the edge will be an important aspect of the Eagles’ pass defense.
A fourth-round pick in 2018, Sweat became a starter only after his third NFL season. Since becoming the starting right outside linebacker in 2021, Sweat has been named to a Pro Bowl and has racked up some solid numbers.
Sweat had his best statistical season two years ago, recording 11 sacks on a historically effective line. He led the team in sacks this year and has become perhaps their most reliable edge rusher.
