Tommy DeVito Touchdown Celebration: Giants QB Shows off Italian Heritage With Viral Celebration

Tommy DeVito is becoming a fan favorite in New York, not just for leading the Giants to two straight wins, but with a new viral celebration.

Tommy DeVito is starting to catch on across the NFL. Not for his current quarterback play for the New York Giants, but for a viral dance that exploded in popularity across social media.

Tommy DeVito Does Italian-Themed Celebration With Giants Teammates

The undrafted quarterback showed off this hand gesture after the Giants’ first touchdown versus the New England Patriots on Sunday.

That hand gesture celebration involving three fingers was given another angle — and a guest appearance from his dad who did a similar hand signal.

For those not familiar with DeVito’s pinched hand gesture move, it stands for “Ma che vuoi,” which in Italian translates to “What do you want?”

    Is DeVito of Italian Decent?

The native of Livingston, N.J., does have Italian in his DNA.

New Jersey and New York have long been the two U.S. states with the largest Italian population. According to us.com, Livingston is 16.67% Italian.

And, per northjersey.com, DeVito can make other hand gestures in Italian including a “well done” hand sign.

DeVito’s hands are already winning over social media. There are new memes now attached to his name.

DeVito even speaks with an Italian accent, as seen here in this interview.

How Did DeVito Fare Today vs. New England Patriots?

DeVito was involved in a low-scoring fest at MetLife Stadium. Plus a game that witnessed a quarterback change.

However, the switch came on the Patriots’ side. DeVito kept his job the whole way and guided the Giants to the 10-7 home win.

DeVito went 17-of-25 passing for 191 yards and threw a 12-yard touchdown to Isaiah Hodgins. DeVito, though, had to get back up several times after absorbing six sacks against the Pats’ defense.

Still, DeVito delivered an efficient afternoon that was enough to give the Giants their first winning streak of 2023. Here’s what he was able to accomplish:

    • Got nine different Giants receivers involved in the offense off of receptions.
    • Elevated Jalin Hyatt to a five-catch, 109-yard day — giving the rookie wide receiver his first career 100-yard outing.
    • Helped lead the Giants down the field for the game-deciding field goal with under nine minutes left.

DeVito has gone from an unknown, undrafted quarterback to a local folk hero. Now, DeVito’s viral celebration could give some leverage on some New York/New Jersey marketing ideas involving him.
