The Chiefs took down the Bills to advance to the AFC title game. Yet, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce also broke Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski's playoff record.

The Kansas City Chiefs took down the Buffalo Bills 27-24 in the Divisional Round of the AFC playoffs. A big reason why was the play of Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes, who both had successful nights.

However, the win wasn’t the only thing they did. They also set a playoff record as a duo. In setting the record, they passed future Hall of Famer Tom Brady. What did Brady have to say about it?

Against the Bills, Mahomes passed 17 of 23 for 215 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Kelce, on the other hand, caught five passes for 75 yards and both TDs.

The two touchdown passes between the duo gave them 16 total in their postseason careers, the most between any two players.

The previous record holder was Brady and Rob Gronkowski, who had connected for 15 postseason scores. “BEASTS,” said Brady on X (formerly known as Twitter). “When you one up Gronk, you’re doing something right.

The win for the Chiefs marked the sixth straight year under Mahomes that they have gone to the AFC Championship Game.

In the postseason, Brady played in 48 games, passing for 13,400 yards, 88 touchdowns, and 40 interceptions. Gronk played in 22 of those games, catching 98 passes for 1,389 yards and 15 touchdowns.

The Chiefs duo is less experienced but just as good. Mahomes has played in 16 postseason games, passing for 4,561 yards, 38 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Kelce has played in 20 contests and has caught 145 passes for 1,694 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The duo’s record-breaking touchdown came early into the second half, with Kelce scoring on a three-yard reception with 11:55 left in the third quarter. The record was tied on Kelce’s first touchdown of the game, a 22-yard score with 3:33 left in the first half.

Kelce has been in the league since 2013 and has compiled 907 career receptions for 11,328 yards and 74 touchdowns. He set the NFL record for most consecutive 1,000+ yard seasons by a tight end with seven, with the streak ending in 2023 following a 984-yard campaign.

In his career, Kelce has two Super Bowl wins, four first-team All-Pros, three second-team All-Pros, and nine Pro Bowls. Additionally, he was named to the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade team.

Mahomes joined the league much later in 2017 but has already become one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever live. He has 28,424 yards, 219 touchdowns, and 63 interceptions in his career. He’s won league MVP and Super Bowl MVP twice and has been named a first-team All-Pro twice, second-team All-Pro once, and Pro Bowler six times.

The Chiefs will now face the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game. The Ravens came into the playoffs with a league-best 13-4 record, holding the AFC’s top seed. The game will kick off at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, Jan. 28. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
