Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is expected to have a big say in Shedeur Sanders’ jump to the NFL. Coach Prime has already said he expects the franchise that drafts him to have all the necessary infrastructure to develop his son’s talents further. If he deems that unfit, he may not allow Shedeur to go there.
As for Shedeur, the Buffaloes quarterback has had an exceptional year, throwing for 35 touchdown passes while becoming the program’s leader in passing yards (3,926). It’s possible that he becomes the first quarterback off the draft board in 2025, but how much impact will Deion Sanders actually have?
NFL Analyst Believes Deion Sanders Will Have Major Influence Where Shedeur Sanders Gets Drafted
Coach Prime is a first-round pick himself and knows that a star player’s career can get hampered if not drafted by the right team. As a father and his coach, he definitely doesn’t want anything bad for Shedeur down the road, even if it means him getting heavily involved in the pre-draft process, which may or may not put his son’s prospects in a bad light.
NFL analyst Todd McShay believes that Deion will play a huge role in Shedeur’s next destination.
“It’s going to be one of the most fascinating pre-draft processes because Coach Prime is absolutely going to control where he goes,” McShay said. “You’ve got about seven teams projected right now to draft in the top 10 that need a quarterback. He’s going to dictate, maybe narrowing it down to two or three organizations he’d be willing to let his son play for, and then they’ll need to come up and get him.
“But how willing is a team going to be to give up what it might require to move up and get a guy who might have been QB4 in last year’s draft? There’s going to be a lot to unpack leading up to this April’s draft.”
"One of the most fascinating pre-draft processes."

Deion Sanders Gives Warning to Teams Looking To Draft Shedeur in 2025
Deion Sanders is very protective of where his son Shedeur heads next. It better be a team that could help him advance further or be ready to face consequences from Coach Prime.
“Yes, but I’m not going to do it publicly. I’d do it privately,” Sanders said on FS1. “And with Travis as well.”
While Deion didn’t point to any team, he let it know his expectations from the franchise that eventually drafts him.
“Somebody that can handle the quarterback that he is. Somebody that can handle understanding what he’s capable of,” Sanders said.
“Someone that has had success in the past handling quarterbacks or someone in an organization understands what they’re doing, not just throwing you out there amongst the wolves if you don’t have the support and the infrastructure of the team.
“Forget the line; he’s played with lines that haven’t been great but he’s been able to do his thing, but just the infrastructure of the team, the direction of where we’re going.”
Draft night is in April, but until then, expect more drama to unfold with Coach Prime at the center of it.
