NFL Draft Analyst Buries Bears Organization for Failing Caleb Williams After Embarrassing 19-3 Loss to Patriots

    Published on

Todd McShay expressed his frustration over the Bears' failure in developing Caleb Williams as Chicago's offense continues to struggle.

Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears suffered a devastating 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 10. Chicago has now lost three straight games since its bye week and has failed to score a touchdown in the last two games.

Williams, who had started showing signs of his superstar potential before the bye week, has failed to perform in the last three games. Moreover, he has been sacked 18 times in the Bears’ three-game losing streak.

Pressure is growing on Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, and people are already calling out the franchise to make a coaching change.

Todd McShay Blames Bears Organization for Caleb Williams’ Poor Form

NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay is upset with how the Bears have handled their rookie quarterback’s situation. It came after Drake Maye completely outperformed the USC product in just his fifth career start while having much less talented players around him.

“It’s hard to watch what’s going on in Chicago with Caleb,” wrote McShay on X (formerly Twitter). “It’s even harder when you’re also watching [Jayden Daniels’] success in Washington and the development of Bo Nix from Week 1 to now. And even some incremental improvements in Maye. Bears organization needs to get the next hire right. Hell or high water.”

Being a first-overall pick brings a lot of pressure, and although the Bears quarterback has talented players in the skill position, his offensive line has continuously let him down. It will be fair to say that Williams has played worse than all the other quarterbacks that were drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, excluding Michael Penix Jr., Atlanta’s QB2 behind Kirk Cousins.

In the loss to the Patriots, Williams threw for just 120 yards, completing 53.3% of his throws. The Bears had only 142 yards on offense compared to the Patriots’ 328.

It’s unbelievable that Chicago’s offense looks worse than it did last season despite adding Williams, Rome Odunze, and Keenan Allen. Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron will likely lose his job as he has failed to take advantage of such a great group of players. Hopefully, the franchise will solve the situation before their star rookie completely loses his confidence.

Ryan Poles Should Already Start Looking at HC Candidates

The loss to the Patriots has confirmed that Eberflus should not return as the Bears’ head coach next season. It wouldn’t be surprising if the franchise parted ways with him in the coming weeks, as the team looks horrid.

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson should be the Bears’ priority for the head coaching position, and general manager Ryan Poles should already start preparing for the interviews.

If Johnson rejects the opportunity to become the Bears’ head coach, Poles should still prioritize bringing in an offensive-minded head coach. Williams has all-world talent and has the potential to become a superstar in the NFL. But unless he is developed properly by the right coaches, no matter how many good players you put around him, there will be a lack of success.

The Bears have a roster good enough to compete, and Poles has a big responsibility on his hands to find the right man for the job. The NFC North is filled with great coaches, and until Chicago gets one, they will continue to finish in the last position, which they are trending to be this year.
