Titans hold the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft. The team could go quarterback, but a recent mock has them trading back, and still getting a top prospect.

The Tennessee Titans hold the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. With numerous roster needs, including quarterback and edge rusher, there’s all kinds of speculation about who the team will select.

While they could select several players with the No. 1 pick, they are not locked into staying at that spot. Could the Titans explore a trade?

Titans Trade Back in Recent 2025 NFL Mock Draft

In PFSN’s latest mock draft, Joe DeLeone has the Titans and the New York Giants making a trade in the first round.

“Trade: The Tennessee Titans received the third overall pick from the New York Giants, as well as pick 34 in the 2nd round and their 2025 2nd round pick.”

“After their trade back, the Titans land the rarest draft prospect we’ve ever seen,” DeLeone said.

Travis Hunter will likely play more cornerback than receiver in the NFL, but Tennessee effectively kills two birds with one stone with [Travis] Hunter. His range, hip mobility, and instincts are that of a future All-Pro.”

In this scenario, the Giants get their potential franchise quarterback, moving up for Miami’s Cam Ward. In 2024, Ward completed 67.2% of his passes for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also added 204 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

While many have mocked Ward to the Titans, in this scenario, they would decide to go a different direction at the quarterback position while acquiring additional capital and still securing a blue-chip prospect in Hunter.

In 2024, Hunter caught 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging 13.1 yards per reception and 96.8 yards per game. Meanwhile, on the defensive side of the ball, he registered 36 tackles (25 solo, 11 assists), 11 pass deflections, four interceptions, and a forced fumble.

With the ability to play on both sides of the ball, Hunter is a unique talent and would provide Tennessee with a talented piece to build around. While the team needs to find a franchise quarterback, it’s hard to argue with adding Hunter and a pair of second-round picks.

What Would This Mean For Tennessee At Quarterback?

While the trade makes sense for both sides, the Titans would still need to find a franchise quarterback if they were to make this move.

DeLeone has the Titans taking Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord in the fifth round of this mock draft. In 2024, McCord completed 66% of his passes for an ACC-leading 4,779 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He also added 67 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

In addition to a late-round pick like McCord, the team could look to free agency for their next quarterback. The Titans have the 11th most cap space in the NFL, with $51,076,216, and could use a large chunk of that on the quarterback position.

Sam Darnold, Justin Fields, Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, and Aaron Rodgers are some of the names on the free-agent market that the Titans could turn to if they opt for a veteran signal-caller. PFSN’s Ben Rolfe predicted the Titans would sign Wilson in his 2025 NFL Free Agency Predictions article.

In his first year in Pittsburgh in 2024, Wilson finished with 2,482 yards passing, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 11 games. He also added 155 yards and two touchdowns as a rusher.

While Wilson isn’t the player he once was, he is still capable of starting in the NFL and could serve as a bridge for the Titans while they search for their quarterback of the future.

The Titans figure to be one of the most intriguing teams this offseason; what they do with the first overall pick could impact numerous other teams’ draft plans.
