Tim Tebow has one of the most interesting career arcs in professional sports. The former Heisman Trophy winner and two-time national champion became a star at the Universaty of Florida.
Tim Tebow’s Professional Career
After being drafted in the first round by the Denver Broncos in 2010, Tebow’s career quickly flamed out.
He returned to football in the 2021 preseason after a six-year hiatus, which included playing Minor League Baseball for the New York Mets, to attempt a position change to tight end for the Jacksonville Jaguars and his former college coach Urban Meyer. Tebow didn’t make it to the regular season.
While Tebow and Meyer’s experience in Jacksonville didn’t pan out for either, the two are back in the national spotlight. “Swamp Kings,” the next part of Netflix’s “Untold” series, releases Tuesday, Aug. 22, which features interviews with Tebow and Meyer.
Tebow, who is widely known as a devoted Christian, stuck out like a sore thumb compared to the other personalities on the championship Gator teams that included Meyer, Aaron Hernandez, Percy Harvin, Mike and Maurkice Pouncey, Riley Cooper, among others.
While Tebow’s NFL success didn’t resemble his collegiate success, he was still the most recognizable face from the Florida era. How much wealth did that bring him?
How Much Did Tim Tebow Make in the NFL?
As the 25th overall pick in 2010, Tebow signed a five-year, $11.25 million contract with $8.7 million guaranteed. That would be the majority of the money he made in the NFL.
According to Spotrac, Tebow’s career earnings were $9,687,500. The Broncos traded Tebow to the New York Jets in 2012, carrying his rookie deal over. The Jets released Tebow after the season.
Tebow signed contracts with the New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles and the Jaguars, each having no guarantees. Tebow never played a regular-season snap for any of those teams, being cut each time, thus failing to reach the incentives from those contracts.
Tim Tebow’s Current Net Worth
Tebow’s true net worth in 2023 is unknown. Various websites range Tebow’s net worth from as low as $5 million to as high as $108 million.
Aside from his football earnings, Tebow brought in money in other ways. He originally signed a one-year, $100,000 contract with the Mets but played four seasons before retiring from the sport in 2021.
Tebow joined ESPN in December 2013 and also signed an extension in 2017 as a college football analyst. He is also a multi-time New York Times bestselling author with his books “Mission Possible,” “This is the Day,” and “Shaken.”
The College Football Hall of Famer has appeared in commercials and ads for Nissan, Jockey, and other well-known companies. He served as executive producer with his older brother, Robby, for the film “Run the Race.” Tebow was also recently approved to own an ECHL expansion franchise in Lake Tahoe that will start in the 2024-25 season.
Tebow’s life certainly isn’t completely private, but will “Swamp Kings” tell us more about the former star QB? We’ll soon find out.
