Another Thursday Night Football game tonight means another somewhat lackluster matchup for NFL fans to watch. This week, we get a battle between two teams literally on opposite ends of the spectrum, one with Super Bowl aspirations and the other with a chance at the first overall pick. Let’s look at who is playing tonight, what time the game starts, and how you can watch it.
Who Plays on Thursday Night Football Tonight?
Teams
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Houston Texans
Location
NRG Stadium, Houston, Texas
The undefeated Philadelphia Eagles travel to take on the one-win Houston Texans. This one will showcase two quarterbacks heading in opposite directions as Jalen Hurts looks to strengthen his MVP chances, while Davis Mills simply tries to hang on to the starting job.
However, the real intrigue in this one will be around the Texans’ awful rush defense. They are coming off of a game where they allowed a whopping 300 yards on the ground to the Tennessee Titans and Derrick Henry. Now, they will be facing an Eagles team that has the sixth-best rushing attack in the league thanks to a combination of Miles Sanders, Kenneth Gainwell, and, of course, the aforementioned Hurts.

If the Eagles decide to take the same approach as the Titans and simply run the ball all game, it might be a long night for Houston. A heavy ground attack should be expected, considering the Eagles already run the ball the second-most times per game in the NFL at 35.
Sanders currently has 563 rushing yards on the year, which is tied for seventh in the NFL. Hurts’ 303 rushing yards currently ranks fourth among quarterbacks behind only Lamar Jackson, Daniel Jones, and Josh Allen.
If that offense doesn’t scare Texans fans, how about the league’s best defense when it comes to takeaways? The Eagles are currently head and shoulders above all other teams in the NFL in turnover margin at +14. There isn’t another team higher than plus six! That might be a problem for Mills, who already has six interceptions this season.
The reality here is that the Texans are currently 1-5-1, and they haven’t played a tough schedule. The list of teams they’ve been somewhat competitive against includes the Colts, Broncos, Bears, Jaguars, and Raiders. Philadelphia is in a tier of its own (including the elite tier in PFN’s Power Rankings) and should have zero problems beating this Houston team on the road.
PFN’s Betting Director BJ Rudell broke down this game in his early NFL picks and predictions.
“The Eagles just defeated the Steelers by 22, while Houston mustered only 10 points against a barely middling Titans defense. So, why isn’t this point spread 20+ points? Well, of course, that’s now how things work. But yeah, this is a battle between two franchises going in opposite directions. Houston’s in Year 2 of what appears to be a four- or five-year rebuild, while the Eagles are angling for the Super Bowl. I don’t see how Houston keeps this one within 18 points.”
