Cam Ward Expresses Gratitude for His Opportunity

During an appearance on the Thursday segment of SportsCenter, the Canes quarterback gave a shoutout to his family ahead of the Heisman ceremony in New York on Dec. 14.

“It’s gonna mean a lot for myself personally, for my family,” Cam Ward said. “I think it means more because of my parents, what they mean to me. Just the sacrifice that they did for me financially and physically, coming to all my football games, my family who’ve been there to support me. It will be a huge accomplishment for the whole family.”

Cam Ward’s NFL Draft Future Explored

On Wednesday, notorious Miami booster Nevin Shapiro, who was involved in the controversial NCAA ban that affected the Hurricanes, appeared on “The Adam ‘Pac-Man’ Jones” podcast. Shapiro was adamant that Ward would be drafted by the New York Giants.

“I’m being told through reliable sources, Cam Ward is going to the New York Giants, guaranteed and the University of Miami’s offensive coordinator is going with him, Shannon Dawson,” Shapiro said. “I’m gonna tell you from what’s been shared with me. Deion won’t let his kid go to the Giants, so right away whether Shedeur is the better quarterback or not, that’s not for me to decide. Holler at me on April 25th or 26th, whenever the draft is.”

In PFN’s latest 2025 NFL mock draft, Ward was projected to land with the Giants.

“Cameron Ward is a top QB prospect with a rocket arm and the ability to make big, splash plays. Though he sometimes plays it too recklessly, if he can refine his decision-making, he borders on being a franchise quarterback.

Ward began his football career at Incarnate Word, earning the Jerry Rice Award as the top freshman in FCS. He then transferred to Washington State, where he continued to excel, and later to Miami. In the 2024 season with Miami, he was named the College Football Network’s ACC Offensive Player of the Year.

The Giants need a new QB after releasing Daniel Jones. Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock are around to finish out the season, but they are far from the future. In a division with talent like Dak Prescott, Jalen Hurts, and Jayden Daniels, the Giants need to swing for the fences with this pick. Ward is the definition of a splash play.”

Ward registered 4,123 passing yards on 67.4% completion resulting in 36 touchdowns and seven touchdowns while adding 196 yards rushing resulting in four touchdowns for one of the most productive seasons of any quarterback in college football.
