The Dallas Cowboys’ postgame fate is set for the NFC Wild Card Round.
With a Cowboys win against the Commanders on Sunday, they punched their postseason ticket as the NFC East champions and the conference’s No. 2 seed.
They will face the Green Bay Packers next weekend at AT&T Stadium. The time and day of the matchup has yet to be announced.
Mike McCarthy’s History With the Packers
This is a storybook matchup for the Cowboys with the history behind it for the team and Mike McCarthy.
McCarthy was the head coach for the Packers from 2006 to 2018. Ironically enough, McCarthy won Super Bowl XLV at AT&T Stadium with the Packers in 2011.
This was brought up after Sunday’s win to which McCarthy said, “It’s playoff time. It doesn’t matter who we play, to be honest with you.”

But it’s hard not to be mindful of the emotional factors tied into this game, especially since McCarthy has yet to beat the Packers as the Cowboys’ head coach.
The last time the teams met was in the 2022 season when the Packers defeated the Cowboys in overtime at Lambeau Field.
Cowboys vs. Packers Playoff History
As for the history of these teams overall? It hasn’t been pretty for the Cowboys most of the time. Both teams have met in the postseason eight times, and each has won four.
But one of the most memorable moments was the Dez Bryant catch debate that led to the Cowboys losing to the Packers in the NFC Divisional Game 2014. McCarthy was the Packers’ head coach during this game as well.
It seems that the Packers have become a boogie man for the Cowboys, especially when it comes to their postseason fate.
But, the Cowboys have a chance to shut down old narratives tied to the rivalry between the two teams, especially since the Packers are also one of six teams with a winning record against the Cowboys.
With Aaron Rodgers out of the picture and Jordan Love in his first season as Green Bay’s starting quarterback, the Cowboys have a chance to create a new chapter and slay a dragon that has haunted them for years.
