‘That Is Disrespectful’ – Aaron Rodgers’ Ex-WR Voices Major Complaint on Patrick Mahomes’ Pro Bowl Snub

    Published on

Former Packers wide receiver James Jones called Patrick Mahomes' Pro Bowl 2025 omission 'disrespectful'.

Patrick Mahomes was glaringly absent from the Pro Bowl 2025 roster for the first time in six years, leaving many fans and analysts scratching their heads. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has been a fixture in the Pro Bowl since taking over in 2018, but this year, it was Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson who claimed the AFC’s top spots.

James Jones Can’t Believe Patrick Mahomes’ Pro Bowl Snub

Mahomes, listed as an alternate, could still make the team if one of these players opts out, but the snub has many questions about the system. James Jones, former wide receiver to Aaron Rodgers during his Green Bay Packers days, didn’t hold back his frustration on Fox’s ‘The Facility.’

Jones called the omission “disrespectful” to Mahomes, stating, “This man is 15-1. The best player in the world. And you leave him off the Pro Bowl list for somebody else because they got some better stats than him. To me, that’s disrespectful because that is when equity kicks in.” Mahomes, with a 15-1 record and first-round bye, certainly has an argument.

Though Mahomes’ 2024 season may not have been as dominant as usual, his numbers still rank him among the league’s elite. With 3,928 passing yards and 26 touchdowns under his belt, the 29-year-old signal-caller ranks seventh in both categories.

His passer rating of 93.5 is solid, though it’s the lowest in his career. However, the former NFL MVP has come in form in the last six games. Mahomes has been near-perfect, throwing 11 touchdowns without a single interception, leading the Chiefs to a flawless 6-0 stretch and clinching the AFC’s No. 1 seed.

However, according to PFN’s QB+ metric, which weighs statistics we value highly and then uses them to evaluate a quarterback across the current season, Mahomes has had a better grade than the average AFC quarterback just four times all season.

As a result, his QB+ grade on the year sits at just 77.5, whereas the NFC and AFC quarterbacks average out to 78.7 and 80.8, respectively. Those numbers were enough justification for many, including iconic sports media pundit Skip Bayless, to agree with the Pro Bowl selections.

PFN’s QB+ metric, too, supports the Pro Bowl selection committee. While Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and Josh Allen rank in the top four of all quarterbacks this season, Mahomes falls all the way to 10 with an 85 score. For his career, that QB+ grade ranks as the second-worst, ahead of last year’s mark of 81.6. But for some, those numbers don’t matter.

The quarterbacks who did make the Pro Bowl this year—Allen, Burrow, and Jackson—have had amazing seasons. Allen has over 4,200 total yards and 40 touchdowns to his name. Burrow leads the league in completions, passing yards, and touchdowns. Jackson boasts a league-best passer rating of 121.6.

Despite playing on the best team in the league, the Chiefs offensive line and a lack of explosive weapons have made it difficult for Mahomes to perform at his usual level. Injuries to key players like WR Rashee Rice and RB Isiah Pacheco and inconsistent play from others have hindered his offensive abilities, making it all the more impressive that the Chiefs have still managed a 15-1 record.

Mahomes’ snub stings and also serves as a wake-up call for the Chiefs. If they want to get Mahomes back to the Pro Bowl next year, they must address their offensive line and ensure they surround him with the support he deserves.
