‘Faster Than Bond’ – Fans React as Texas WR Matthew Golden Puts NFL on Notice With Blazing 40-Yard Dash

Fans reacted on X after Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden ran a 4.29 second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Matthew Golden was one of many Longhorns players who participated in the NFL Combine over the weekend. He performed excellently in the 40-yard dash, clocking a 4.29 second time in the event.

Fans React After Matthew Golden Runs 4.29 Seconds in the 40-Yard Dash

Golden’s performance placed him as the second fastest player at the Combine, only behind Kentucky CB Maxwell Hairston who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.28 seconds. Texas Football posted a video of Golden’s performance and several fans reacted positively.

However, some fans took the opportunity to point out that he ran faster than his teammate, wide receiver Isaiah Bond. Bond made headlines before the event, saying he would break Xavier Worthy’s record of 4.21 seconds, set in 2024. However, he did not come close, clocking 4.39 seconds for his fastest time.

“Faster than Bond?! WHOA,” one fan wrote.

“Holy crap. I had no idea Golden was so fast. Wow!,” one fan added.

Fans continued to react to Matthew Golden’s impressive performance on X.

“Did you feel the sonic boom? My god,” one fan wrote.

“Gotta shoot up the draft boards now,” one fan commented.

“Someone is about to get a great player,” one fan added.

It is unclear how much this performance will help Golden’s draft stock. NFL Combine performance is not something that is valued as highly as it used to be. While scouts like to see their raw athletic abilities, they place far more value on actual performance on the field.

In PFSN’s most recent mock draft, analyst Jacob Infante had Golden going No. 29 overall to the Commanders.

Jayden Daniels, Dan Quinn, and the Washington Commanders as a whole surpassed expectations in a major way in 2024. Though they fell a game short of the Super Bowl, a few more smart moves this offseason could help them get over the hump,” said Infante.

“Matthew Golden has been the subject of plenty of buzz in recent weeks. He’s a coordinated, intelligent route runner with impressive body control attacking the ball in the air. He doesn’t have an elite physical trait, but he’s a well-rounded target who should be a strong complementary starting receiver in the NFL.”

Golden was viewed as a borderline first round pick before the NFL Combine, but it will be interesting to see if a team reaches for him earlier because of his speed.
