‘Best Job in America’ – Texas HC Steve Sarkisian Reveals Why He Didn’t Leave for an NFL Gig

Steve Sarkisian reveals why he didn't leave the Texas Longhorns for an opportunity at an NFL head coaching job.

Steve Sarkisian was one of the hottest names in the football world after Texas ended the season with an overall record of 13-3 after the 2024 college football season.

In January, Adam Schefter revealed that some NFL teams were interested in the Texas head coach; however, Sarkisian clarified that he intends to stay with the Longhorns and continue building his legacy here.

Steve Sarkisian Opens Up About Why He Didn’t Leave Texas for an NFL Job

The Texas Longhorns were among the best teams in the 2024 college football season and had one of the deepest quarterback rooms with Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning.

Even though Texas’ QB1 Ewers was out injured for a couple of games in the season, Manning was prepared to take charge and helped them win both games.

During a conversation on “Up & Adams,” Steve Sarkisian discussed why leaving Texas wasn’t an option for him, while a few NFL teams expressed interest in offering him the head coaching job.

Sarkisian shared that he thinks he has the best job in the country because he had a conversation with his dad 30 years ago about what would be the best job for him, and he said it would be at the University of Texas.

The Longhorns head coach said he’s here to rebuild a program that was in poor shape when he first joined.

“I really think I have the best job in America. And I know that’s easy to say because I’m sitting in the chair now…what’s the best job? The University of Texas, you know? And I went through all these reasons for this thing to go full circle, and I’m here now to build the program. From where we were, we were 5-7 in year one, and it was like, tough, six-game losing streak, no draft picks. Like, really poor,” Sarkisian explained.

“In year two, we get to 8-5. Bijan goes in the first round, like starting to build a little momentum. Year three, you know, we make it to the college football semifinals. We break the school record for NFL Draft picks with 11 draft picks.”

Sarkisian further stated that they have 14 players invited to the 2025 NFL combine, which is 25 in the last two years, along with two back-to-back semi-final appearances.
