While the Houston Texans are building something special, and weapons like Nico Collins have proven to be absolute studs, there’s no denying their WR corps got stronger when they picked up veteran Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills. And although Diggs’s tenure in Orchard Park ended awkwardly, it quickly became clear that he was set to prove himself bigger in Texas.

A Look Back at Stefon Diggs’ Season in Houston
Diggs’ 2024 season was off to a solid start, having secured 47 catches for 496 yards and a total of four touchdowns throughout the first eight games. Of course, praise both on and off the field can’t prevent injury, and ever since he found himself sidelined in Week 9, the question has been whether Texans GM Nick Caserio would be bringing Diggs back in 2025. For now, it looks like that question has been put to rest.

According to an article by the Houston Chronicle, Caserio spoke about the situation at length during a 45-minute radio appearance. “We have good relationships with Stef and his representation. We enjoyed having Stef in the building. So, the door is always open. A number of players have expressed sentiments and interest in potentially returning to our team next season. We never rule anything out, so we’re going to be open-minded.”
While at first, it appears that Caserio is only leaving the door open, which doesn’t quite address the elephant in the room. However, Caserio was certain to add that the Texans are “absolutely open” to re-signing Diggs.” And, of course, who could argue?
Is Diggs Worth Keeping?
After acquiring him from the Bills for a second-round pick, the Texans worked a deal with Diggs that essentially put him on a one-year, $22.5 million agreement. Before the injury, the deal was looking like a steal.
However, as for bringing him back, Caserio might need to consider not only his coming off an injury but also the fact that Diggs could be a bit long in the tooth for the position. Nevertheless, there’s no doubt the receiver still has plenty of gas in the tank.
Diggs has 10,491 career receiving yards and 70 TDs in the regular season. He’s nearing 1,000 yards in the postseason alone, having proven to be a valuable asset when teams need him.
The Texans currently have 25 players hitting NFL free agency. With the “legal tampering period” about to open up, it feels like many teams could benefit from adding Diggs to their roster. In the meantime, I suppose we’ll soon learn how much Caserio wants to keep him.
