Terron Armstead Injury: Dolphins Place OT on Injured Reserve

The Dolphins will be without Terron Armstead for a stretch. Miami placed the veteran left tackle on injured reserve on Friday.

Terron Armstead was always expected to miss multiple games after suffering a knee injury in Week 4, and the Miami Dolphins formalized his absence on Friday. NFL Network reports the Dolphins are placing Armstead on injured reserve (IR), meaning he’ll be required to be sidelined for at least four games.

Fortunately, Armstead’s knee injury is not believed to be season-ending, per NFLN. But Miami will be without their starting left tackle for the foreseeable future.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel offered an update on Armstead earlier this week.

“Looks to be, I would say, weeks, not days,” McDaniel said. “We have to kind of see how everything settles down. And then we’ll be able to make a better prognosis for that timeline here. … I can say that he won’t be playing in the next game. But he will be playing again this season.”

Armstead, who inked a five-year, $75 million deal with the Dolphins in 2022, has never completed an entire season without suffering an injury. He missed Miami’s first two games this year and has consistently been listed on the club’s injury report with back, ankle, and knee issues.

Armstead’s Week 4 knee problem is new, so it remains to be seen how the 32-year-old responds to treatment and how quickly he can return to the field.

In the meantime, he’ll be replaced by Kendall Lamm, who filled in for Armstead in Weeks 1 and 2 before playing 43 snaps on Sunday after Armstead went down.

“Kendall has done a tremendous job this season,” McDaniel said. “… I also did see a difference [Sunday] that he would attest to, and when you’re preparing all week to be the starter, or you’re getting 20 to 30% of the amount of reps.

“You know, that’s the nature of the business for a lot of guys. When you aren’t starting, you have to be your best version of yourself.”

Armstead isn’t the only Dolphins offensive lineman dealing with an injury. Center Connor Williams (groin) missed Sunday’s game but has returned to limited practice sessions this week.
