Will the Tennessee Titans make it back to the playoffs after going 7-10 last season? We break it down with their betting lines, a best bet, and more.

The Tennessee Titans had their first losing season under Mike Vrabel in 2022, finishing with a 7-10 record after a 7-3 start. Heading into this season, expectations are relatively low, as the Titans are projected to miss the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

But will they surprise people this season with Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry completely healthy, as well as the addition of DeAndre Hopkins? We preview the Titans’ upcoming season with their betting lines, a best bet, and more.

    Tennessee Titans Offense

After trading away A.J. Brown during the 2022 NFL Draft, the Titans were left with a gaping hole at wide receiver. Now, they have Hopkins filling the void and Treylon Burks entering Year 2, although he recently suffered an LCL sprain in training camp.

This offense will continue to be built around Derrick Henry, who will be entering his eighth season but has shown zero signs of slowing down. However, at 29 years old and with 1,750 career carries, is this the year he finally slows down? We have learned two lessons about the Titans in recent years: 1) never bet against them as underdogs, and 2) never bet against Henry.

Ryan Tannehill missed five games last season due to injury, and the Titans went 1-4 without him. Tannehill will be 35 years old this season, and they drafted Will Levis in the second round as the potential heir-apparent at the quarterback position.

The biggest weakness for this unit will be the offensive line, which might be the worst in the NFL.

    Tennessee Titans Defense

The Titans’ defense is led by All-Pro DT Jeffery Simmons. After recording a combined 16 sacks the last two seasons, the team rewarded Simmons with a four-year, $94 contract extension in the offseason.

Outside of Simmons, this is a Titans team with a questionable pass rush heading into the season. DeMarcus Walker, their third leader in sacks from a year ago, left in free agency, as did edge rusher Bud Dupree.

Standout safety Kevin Byard was rumored to be available in trades early in the offseason as he refused to take a pay cut. But that dispute is now behind them, as he later restructured his contract to create the necessary cap space for the team to sign Hopkins.

Byard will be 30 years old this season but is still one of the best safeties in the NFL, with nine interceptions over the last two seasons.

    One Betting Trend To Know

Unders went 7-1 in the eight games in which the Titans were favored last season, according to Inside Edge.

Best Bet for the Titans in 2023

Bearman: No, this is not my favorite bet of the offseason. But it comes down to this: The Titans were 7-3 last year before the late-season collapse and a 12-win team the year before, both under Vrabel.

No, they are not as good as when they were the No. 1 seed, but they still have one of the best RBs in the game in Henry, a solid veteran QB, a coach that has a proven track record, and they added one of the better WRs in the game in Hopkins.

MORE: Predicting the 2023 NFL Playoff Bracket

The 2023 schedule features six games within their own weak division, four games against the weakest division in the NFC (South), and coin-flip games against the Saints and Steelers. They should be able to scrape out eight wins. Over 7.5 wins.
