Week 9 TE Waiver Wire Targets: Top Players To Add Include Taysom Hill and Logan Thomas

The TE position looks like a barren wasteland. Is there any help we can find off the Week 9 waiver wire at fantasy football's worst position?

The Week 9 waiver wire is like every other week at the tight end position: There just isn’t much out there. Waiver adds at TE are very much an exercise in chasing your tail and hoping to catch it just once. With that in mind, here are some potential targets for fantasy football managers on the wire this week.

Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints (9% Rostered)

“That’s back-to-back double-digit fantasy point outings for Taysom Hill. At fantasy’s worst position, that’s enough to pay attention.” That’s how I started out last week’s waiver wire blurb on Hill. Well, he did it again and then some.

Hill went back to being a rusher in this one, only seeing one target. However, he ran it nine times for 63 yards and two touchdowns. He is officially startable in 12-team leagues. Grab him.

    FAAB Recommendation: 5-15%

Logan Thomas, Washington Commanders (45% Rostered)

There will be plenty of weeks where you are not thrilled about Logan Thomas’ production. Of course, we can say that about nearly every tight end this season. The reality is Thomas provides enough weekly upside to be worth starting.

This week, he caught six of eight targets for 44 yards and a touchdown. He’s now seen 14 targets over his past two games. You can certainly do far worse as your TE1.

    FAAB Recommendation: 5-10%

Which TEs Should You Roster in Fantasy Football?

Should You Roster Taysom Hill or Cole Kmet?

I am always hesitant to buy into Hill. It feels like every year, he goes on a stretch where he scores a bunch of touchdowns. Fantasy managers then rush to add him and put him into lineups, only for him to return to the guy who averaged 3.7 PPG in Weeks 1-5.

With that said, this does feel different. I get the sense there’s a much more deliberate intent to use Hill than there’s been in the past.

As for Cole Kmet, he’s so incredibly unpredictable on a weekly basis. Last week, he caught all 10 of his targets for 79 yards. The week before, he wasn’t even targeted. Kmet has displayed a very high weekly ceiling but also the lowest of floors.

I wish there was a clear answer here. Hill certainly has the higher touchdown upside. But in terms of who is likely to average more PPG over the remainder of the season, it truly is a toss-up. Every non-elite TE is just about the same. If forced to choose, I would probably go with Hill.

Should You Roster Logan Thomas or Dalton Schultz?

Right after I wrote off Dalton Schultz, he posted three straight games with 13+ fantasy points. He also scored in all three. It made me look bad for calling him a drop, but it sure felt like a fluke.

Sure enough, Schultz returned to the guy who averaged 3.9 PPG over the first three weeks of the season, scoring just 2.5 fantasy points last week.

Meanwhile, Thomas continues to maintain an elite role in one of the league’s most pass-heavy offenses. He has a very low weekly floor, but so does Schultz. Thomas has already proven to have a high ceiling.

Both of these guys are volatile, but one is on a better offense that throws more. Give me the Commander for the rest of the season.
