The Week 8 waiver wire is like every other week at the tight end position: There just isn’t much out there. Waiver adds at TE are very much an exercise in chasing your tail and hoping to catch it just once. With that in mind, here are some potential targets for fantasy football managers on the wire this week.

Top TE Waiver Wire Targets in Week 8
More Waiver Wire Targets: RBs | WRs | QBs
Dalton Kincaid, Buffalo Bills (9% Rostered)
Dalton Kincaid saw his best usage of the season against the Patriots. The rookie TE caught all eight of his targets for 75 yards.
It could just be a blip, but it also could be a rookie figuring it out. If it’s the latter, he has the talent to be a TE1 over the second half of the season.
We are constantly chasing any semblance of upside at tight end. Kincaid embodies that; he’s the top add at the position this week.
FAAB Recommendation: 5-10%
Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints (9% Rostered)
That’s back-to-back double-digit fantasy point outings for Taysom Hill. At fantasy’s worst position, that’s enough to pay attention.
Hill now has 11 receptions for 99 yards over his past two games. That is easily the best two-game stretch of his career. This week, he added a short touchdown, his first of the season. You can certainly do worse at the tight end position.
FAAB Recommendation: 3-8%
Which TEs Should You Roster in Fantasy Football?
Should You Add Jonnu Smith or Logan Thomas?
Jonnu Smith has been surprisingly useful all season. Outside of Week 1, Smith has scored at least 8.7 fantasy points in five of his last six games. His 3-27 dud last week was his first game below double-digits in a month.
Smith continues to play ever so slightly ahead of Kyle Pitts. Despite the Falcons’ run-first offense, he’s been a serviceable fantasy option.

Logan Thomas has displayed a higher weekly ceiling. His 20-point outing against the Bears was legendary. While Thomas completely flopped two weeks ago, he’s actually had a reasonably high floor otherwise. Thomas has scored at least 7.3 fantasy points in every other game.
Thomas continues to dominate the Commanders TEs in routes run. His role is excellent, and aside from last week, he’s been the third option in the passing game behind Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel.
Neither Thomas nor Smith is an exciting option, but who really is at tight end outside of a handful of guys? If you’re looking for a weekly startable option, go Thomas here.
Should You Add Cade Otton or Trey McBride?
Now we’re really digging deep for desperation options. Cade Otton and Trey McBride are both sophomore TEs who haven’t really broken out yet. Coincidentally, both are just 2% rostered in Yahoo leagues.
Neither of these guys has been remotely startable in fantasy just yet. The hope with both of them is they will improve and figure it out as the season goes along.
Otton has been better through seven weeks. However, he plays on a team with Chris Godwin and Mike Evans. Plus, Rachaad White is a very competent receiving out of the backfield. There is no prayer of Otton ever being higher than fourth in the target hierarchy.
Additionally, Otton has been playing over 95% of the snaps. He has the dream role for a tight end. He just doesn’t command targets.
Trey McBride’s primary issue has been Zach Ertz. For some reason, the Cardinals are still pushing the immobile Ertz ahead of the guy who was considered the best TE prospect of the 2022 draft class.
McBride’s role is growing, but he’s still playing only about 50% of the snaps. Even so, McBride has that room for growth. I just don’t see what will change with Otton. He can’t possibly play more than he is; McBride can. If he does, we could see him emerge into a viable TE2. That is more than I can say about Otton.
