Would you believe me if I told you New Orleans Saints TE Taysom Hill has been one of the most consistent fantasy producers at the TE position over the last two years? The end results of his production and positional tag make him a bit of a cheat code in the world of fantasy football.
Can Hill continue to be a viable starting fantasy option at TE in 2024?
Should You Draft Taysom Hill in 2024?
Hill continues to be one of the most fascinating studies in fantasy football for his NFL career.
His impact in PPR formats has been somewhat limited because he caught just nine passes last season, but despite his lack of involvement as a pass catcher, he still finished as the TE12 (2023) and TE9 (2022) over the last two years in full-PPR formats. How did this happen?
Well, when you run the ball 81 times, catch 33 passes, and throw the ball 11 times, your path to generating fantasy points is drastically more versatile than any other TE in the league. Hill has thrown for a touchdown, run for a touchdown, and caught a touchdown for two straight years. The versatility is truly like a Swiss army knife but makes his year-to-year production feel like a mystery.
Oddly enough, Hill actually posted career-highs in both the reception (33) and receiving yard (291) departments in 2023. Seeing that the Saints did not bring in any noteworthy free agents or spend high draft capital at the wide receiver position, it is certainly within the range of outcomes for Hill to utilized in this fashion again in 2024.
Sure, Chris Olave is still the unquestioned alpha in the passing game and Alvin Kamara will see his fair share of checkdowns from Derek Carr, but Hill’s pass-catching outlook is shaping up quite well.
Combine this with his fantasy-friendly role as a rushing threat in the red zone — where he saw 27 carries last year — and Hill has a realistic path to another low-end TE1 fantasy season in full-PPR formats.
Don’t even get me started about his TE tag in standard/non-PPR formats. He has four straight top-10 finishes at the TE position there! Are you starting to see why he is a complete cheat code?
I wouldn’t count on getting much from Hill as a passer — throwing just 30 passes combined over the last two years — but it does give him another way to generate fantasy points in 2024.
Hill’s ADP at No. 155 overall in the 13th round of fantasy drafts (TE22 off the board) makes little sense to me. Hill is currently being selected after Ben Sinnott, Tyler Conklin, and Hunter Henry.
I understand his production is maddeningly inconsistent. I understand the methods of producing fantasy numbers are unconventional. I understand he is a legitimate threat to give you close to zero points in a full-PPR format on any given Sunday.
Yet, few TEs going in this range can occasionally win you a week at the TE position. This alone makes him well worth a dart-throw pick in the final round of your fantasy draft.
