The New Orleans Saints will trot out the “Taysom Hill Experience” for one more season in 2024. The mega-talented, mega-versatile Hill has been an intriguing player for fantasy managers. Although Hill has no real position, he has proven to be an effective player in whatever role he’s asked to fill.
But is being a backup at multiple positions enough to have real value as a fantasy player anymore?
Let’s take a look at Taysom Hill’s fantasy outlook for this upcoming season.
Taysom Hill’s Fantasy Profile for the 2024 NFL Season
2023 saw Hill’s role with the Saints change a little bit, but he proved to be just as effective as in seasons past. While his rushing numbers last season (401 yards) were down from the previous season (575), Hill added an element to his game not seen in recent seasons: receiving.
Hill set career highs last season for targets (40), receptions (33) and receiving yards (291). He had an excellent catch percentage as well at 82.5%, which was tied for the 10th-highest among players who had at least 30 receptions.
In all, Hill finished with 692 yards from a scrimmage, also a career-high. He also added six rushing/receiving touchdowns, and while it was down from the 2023 season (nine combined TDs), it was also the fifth straight season Hill finished with five or more scrimmage touchdowns.
While Hill improved his receiving production last season, it’s possible that came at the expense of his role as a backup quarterback.
Hill had only 11 pass attempts last season, his fewest in a season since 2019, his second season in the league. He finished with only 83 passing yards as well, also his fewest since that 2019 season.
The reduction in passing wasn’t a one-year aberration, either. Over the last two seasons, Hill has a combined 30 pass attempts. In the previous two seasons (2021-22), Hill had a combined 255 pass attempts.
While Hill can provide production at a number of different positions, getting him on the field more often has proven to be a challenge for the Saints. Hill was on the field for more than 50% of the Saints’ offensive plays in three of his 16 games last season.
Is Taysom Hill a Good Fantasy Pick?
Although he has been listed as a quarterback, wide receiver, and tight end, Hill enters this season as the No. 15 tight end in Pro Football Network’s Fantasy Tight End Rankings.
For all his versatility and ability to play multiple positions, Hill ranked in a tie for 97th last season in yards from scrimmage (692).
And since passing the ball doesn’t seem to be a part of his game anymore, it does seem difficult to suggest fantasy managers should draft Hill anywhere before the later rounds.
One area to consider when it comes to Hill is the fact that he did put up bigger numbers as a tight end/receiver than in previous years. If he does get increased snaps as a backup tight end, that could add to his overall value in fantasy leagues.
