It’s hard to believe that Taylor Swift is only 33 years old given how much she’s accomplished during her nearly two-decade reign atop the music industry. Yet, she’s perhaps never been a bigger name than she is in the year 2023.
Swift has drawn headlines aplenty this year, both for her remastered albums (Speak Now and 1989) as well as for her theatrical concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.
It’s fitting then, that Time honored Swift as their Person of the Year for 2023. Much like Troy Polamalu in his heyday, Swift has been everywhere this year. Including at some high-profile football games.
Of course, you likely knew that already. Swift’s relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has been well-publicized since this season began. The starlet shed some new light on it in her interview for Time.

If it wasn’t already clear, Swift is wildly popular. As such, her relationship with Kelce has brought a whole new set of eyes to the NFL. And conversely, NFL fans at large have been exposed to a lot more of Swift than many of them were likely expecting this year.
That has led to some pushback from folks upset at what they might declare overexposure. A notion she didn’t mind pushing back against herself during her Time interview.
“I’m just there to support Travis,” she says. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
Swift continued to say that her relationship with Kelce predates the start of the 2023 NFL season. Instead, she says her courtship with the star tight end began soon after he mentioned her on his New Heights podcast with his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.

“We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”
Swift’s outlook is a wise one to take, especially with both halves of this pairing being so prominent in the public sphere.
“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” she says. “The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
Swift concluded her thoughts on pigskin with a statement any football enthusiast worth their salt would sign off on.
“Football is awesome, it turns out,” Swift said playfully. “I’ve been missing out my whole life.”
