As the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills face off on the field during the AFC Championship game, cameras will be looking for Taylor Swift and Hailee Steinfeld in the stands. Swift is dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Steinfeld is engaged to Bills QB Josh Allen, so they will be rooting for opposing teams today, but are they friends outside the stadium?
Swift and Steinfeld have a history that dates back more than a decade, and they have even shared the screen together. With the two expected to be in attendance for today’s game at Arrowhead Stadium, let’s examine their relationship and if they are still friends.
Do Taylor Swift and Hailee Steinfeld Have ‘Bad Blood’ Or Are They Friends?
Swift and Steinfeld have been friends for over a decade now. They first crossed paths in 2013 when the Grammy Award-winning singer attended the premiere of Steinfeld’s movie “Romeo and Juliet.”
The two celebs posed together for photos at the 2014 Golden Globes afterparty. Swift’s friend group became known as the “Squad,” and Steinfeld was one of the members.
In 2014, Swift invited Steinfeld to appear in her “Bad Blood” music video alongside Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne, Zendaya, Hayley Williams, Jessica Alba, Cindy Crawford, Lily Aldridge, and Ellen Pompeo, among others.
Steinfeld’s career was taking off around this time, and she accompanied the singer on her “1989” tour, joining the other “Squad” members onstage.
“Oh, my God. That, I’ve experienced nothing like [it],” Steinfeld told Vogue. “The whole show we were all super present so that we weren’t going to be missing our cues. So we went backstage and we all got dressed together — it was me, Lena, Gigi, and Lily — and Taylor’s up onstage doing her thing, no big deal, just another night.
“We were all telling each other: ‘Seriously, we’ve got to just take this all in.’ We got up onstage, we got off, and we looked at each other, and we were like, ‘What the hell just happened? I don’t remember a thing. I’m pretty sure I just blacked out.'”
Swift’s “Bad Blood” crew hit the Billboard Music Awards in 2015, with Steinfeld telling USA Today that the singer served as an inspiration for her.
“She sets such an incredible example for everyone — let alone just me — that she’s such an inspiration,” Steinfeld said. “I really do look up to her as an artist and as a person.”
However, the “Love Myself” singer made it clear the following year that she wasn’t as close to Swift as people thought.
“I think people think we spend a lot more time together than we actually [do],” Steinfeld said. “She’s amazing, though.”
While the two celebrities may not have been spotted together publicly lately, Steinfeld remains a fan of Swift.
“I’m literally chasing the dates of her Eras tour trying to figure out when I can make it,” she told People Magazine in 2023.
It’s worth noting that when Allen proposed to Steinfeld and the couple announced their engagement in November 2024, Swift and Kelce both liked Steinfeld’s engagement announcement post on Instagram.
The duo will likely attend the Chiefs vs. Bills AFC Championship Game on Sunday, and while Steinfeld has kept a low profile at NFL games, don’t be surprised if she makes an appearance in Swift’s premium box given their close friendship that dates back more than a decade.
