Buffalo Bills safety Taylor Rapp suffered a scary injury on Sunday after colliding with fellow defensive back Taron Johnson. Here’s the latest on Rapp.
Taylor Rapp Injury Update
Rapp, Johnson, and New York Jets running back Breece Hall all fell to the turf after a play just before the end of the first half.
Rapp initially stood up after the impact but fell to the ground roughly 30 seconds later. Buffalo’s medical staff removed Rapp’s facemask and strapped him to a backboard.
While Rapp left the field in an ambulance, he moved his hands and gave a thumbs-up as he departed, an excellent sign for his long-term physical outlook.

Watching any NFL player leave the field in an ambulance is always frightening, but it was even more disconcerting in Buffalo, where Damar Hamlin was sitting on the Bills’ bench.
Johnson was also injured on the play. He was able to jog to the Bills’ locker room.
Buffalo announced that neither Rapp (neck) nor Johnson (concussion) would return to the game.
After the Bills’ win over the Jets, head coach Sean McDermott said he believed Rapp was at home, “which is a good thing,” per ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg.
Rapp, 25, spent the first four years of his career with the Los Angeles Rams before signing a one-year deal with Buffalo this offseason. A second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Rapp has started two games in 2023 while playing roughly a third of the Bills’ defensive snaps.
Buffalo had already lost CB Dane Jackson to a head injury earlier in the game, so the club was without three of its top defensive backs. The Bills were also playing without LB Matt Milano, CB Tre’Davious White, and DT DaQuan Jones, all of whom are on injured reserve.
