Taylor Heinicke Dynasty Profile: Fantasy Outlook, Value, Projections, and Rankings

After two years as a starter, what does Taylor Heinicke's future look like, and what is his value in dynasty fantasy football leagues going forward?

As we inch toward the new season, the ever-changing NFL landscape has player fantasy values constantly on the move. Whether you’re used to the dynasty platform or are still learning the dynasty rules, let’s dive into the latest dynasty value of Taylor Heinicke.

Taylor Heinicke’s Dynasty Outlook and Value

There are some quarterbacks who look great when they come in for a couple of spot starts but just can’t sustain that level of play when handed the keys to the kingdom. Heinicke looks like that type of guy.

The 2015 UDFA has had a way better career than anyone could have imagined. He bounced around a couple of NFL teams before playing half a season in the AAF. He then returned to the NFL, was forced into the Commanders’ starting role, and almost beat Tom Brady in a playoff game.

Heinicke’s story is a fascinating one, but he’s not exactly a fantasy-relevant player. He’s started 25 games over the past two seasons and averaged below 15 fantasy points per game.

Heinicke did post five 20+ fantasy point efforts in 2021. He’s capable of getting hot and lighting up the right opponent. But he also had seven games of 12 fantasy points or fewer.

After initially losing his job to Carson Wentz, Heinicke replaced him midway through the 2022 season. He started out hot but ultimately lost the job again to Wentz before the team turned to rookie Sam Howell for the final two games of the season.

    Taylor Heinicke’s Fantasy Ranking

It wouldn’t have surprised me if Heinicke returned to the Commanders as a backup. Similarly, it is not a surprise at all to see him go to Atlanta as their backup.

With Desmond Ridder far from a sure thing, there’s a non-zero chance Heinicke makes starts this year, even if Ridder stays healthy.

We have Heinicke at QB43 (No. 425 overall) in our dynasty Superflex rankings. He’s only worth something in Superflex leagues and only in deeper leagues where you can gamble on Ridder getting hurt or benched, forcing Heinicke to make starts. In single-quarterback leagues, you can ignore Heinicke in dynasty startup drafts.
