Few things go together as well as drinking games and Super Bowl 56. Whether you are still about your team being knocked out, don’t like the teams playing, or simply just want to enjoy the game, there are endless excuses that can be found. Adding in a few drinking games to the 2022 Super Bowl can be a surefire way to guarantee yourself and your friends a good time. How you feel the next morning is not a guarantee, and as always, drink responsibly.
Safe Super Bowl drinking games to play in 2022
Maverick and Goose. Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Chandler and Joey. The Super Bowl and drinking. Some pairings are just perfect. As we know, especially over these last two years, life is hard enough and drives us to drink. You don’t need to give me an excuse to take advantage of this glorious intoxicated loophole of frivolity and bacchanalia.
After a Super Bowl away from our friends and family last year, Super Bowl LVI is set to be one of the biggest celebrations and holidays of the year. Even those who don’t particularly care about the game will even have fun with these drinking games as they liven the party.
Easy Super Bowl drinking games
Some games need you to pay attention. That can be more difficult than some people realize, especially when socializing with friends. So a game like Touchdown Cup becomes super easy for everyone to do. The rules couldn’t be simpler. Finish your drink anytime there is a touchdown. If you prefer, take a shot when it happens. Touchdowns are typically spaced out when they happen. Therefore, you shouldn’t have to go back-to-back too quickly.
Even if you aren’t paying attention, aside from touchdowns, we all know when a penalty happens as half the room is complaining. And this year, it’s more like 99% of the room, given how bad it has been. So, why not have some fun with it?
This game is based on yardage. If it is 5 yards or less, take a drink. From 5 to 10, take two. Three drinks for a 15-yard penalty; finish it on anything further than 15 yards.
You can also base this around commercials. Anytime you see another alcohol commercial or a car commercial, take a drink. See the beer commercial of the one you have in your hand? Finish your drink. Maybe choose one or two of these to play unless you are not trying to make it to the halftime show.
Word-related 2022 Super Bowl drinking games
These can be as simple or as complex as you want. It all comes down to how well you think you can remember the rules once the fourth quarter rolls around. I’d recommend having these written down on a whiteboard or something and have it handy so you don’t forget.
Take a sip…
- When the term “G.O.A.T.” is used
- Anytime Tom Brady is talked about (I’m sorry for this one)
- When they speculate on Aaron Rodgers
- Every time they hype up the Pepsi Halftime Show
- When Patrick Mahomes playoff record is mentioned
- Any time Andy Reid’s coaching tree is discussed
- When the cost of SoFi Stadium is brought up
- When Al Michaels or Cris Collinsworth mention the Rams could win at home like Tampa did last year
- Any time the Olympics are mentioned
Finish your drink…
- When Collinsworth talks about arbitrarily calculated player grades
- Any time Terry McAulay has to talk about a blown call by the referees
- When Collinsworth says, “Now here’s a guy…”
- If the score 28-3 is mentioned
- Any time Eric Bieniemy not getting a head coaching position is brought up
Turn Super Bowl squares into a drinking game
This is one everyone can play and takes little to no effort. Instead of words or events, turn the score into a game. Just like traditional Super Bowl squares where you pick a number on a board that correlates to the game score, anytime the score in the game lands on your square, take a drink.
If the quarter ends on your square, finish whatever you have in your hand. Sometimes the easiest drinking games are the best ones on Super Bowl Sunday. This might be the easiest one of them all (and one of the most popular).
Bring some props into your 2022 Super Bowl drinking games
Just because the game is on, that does not mean all of your drinkings games need to be based on what happens on TV. Do you have a favorite card game you like to play like poker, euchre, or even go fish? Turn that into a game to keep you occupied during commercial breaks or halftime.
Test out who is the best quarterback in your own living room with a mini-football toss. Set up some hoops or empty trash cans a decent distance away and set up teams or go one-on-one. The loser has to drink.
