Had Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl 59 and completed the historic three-peat, there would’ve been very little debate over who is the best quarterback in the NFL. But Mahomes had one of the worst games of his career, and the chatter about whether he’s still the best in the league keeps getting bigger.
However, former Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Chase Daniels believes one ugly game doesn’t define Mahomes’ career, suggesting he is still a level ahead of his competitors.

Chase Daniels Explains Why Patrick Mahomes Is Still ‘Clearly the Best QB in the NFL’
Fans and pundits alike have labeled Mahomes’ outing in Super Bowl 59 as one of his worst. The quarterback’s problems were magnified by his lackluster offensive line and the Eagles’ ferocious defense, which sacked him six times.
Daniels feels one game can’t knock the Chiefs quarterback off the pedestal and that he’s still the best quarterback in the league.
“Look, he’s been in five Super Bowls in seven years. He’s won three Super Bowls and MVPs galore, won three of them. He’s on the path, quite honestly, to surpassing Tom Brady in Super Bowl appearances and Super Bowl wins if you look at the arch of their careers. He’s like barely there, that’s it there, he’s gonna be that GOAT.”

Mahomes has been in the NFL for eight seasons (seven as a starter), and his early career success gives him a leg to stand on in the GOAT debate. He’s 17-4 in the postseason and now 3-2 in the Super Bowl. Kansas City would have to make and win five more Super Bowls for Mahomes to surpass Brady.
But compared to his active peers, Daniels insists he’s second to none.
“People will say that in the last few years of Patrick Mahomes’ career, statistically, he’s 1-1 in Super Bowls, he’s won back-to-back Super Bowls, and he’s the only quarterback to give his team a chance to go back-to-back-to-back. So, because of one game, I can’t knock him off the pedestal.
“Quite honestly, it’s not even close. Like it’s Mahomes, then it’s Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson… So, for me, yes, he’s still clearly the best quarterback in the NFL.”
Mahomes was ranked 10th by PFSN’s QB+ metric, while Jackson, Burrow, and Allen occupied three of the top five spots. Daniels feels it’s what Mahomes had done with “less talent around him” in recent years that makes him the best.
“I mean look, there’s no way that you can’t look at Mahomes and just take away the Super Bowls in his career and what he’s done in the last two years with honestly less talent around him than he’s ever had after the Tyreek Hill situation. Travis Kelce, back-to-back years of declining player, I clearly think Mahomes is still the best quarterback.”
